SPS JUAN CARLOS I
WHAT:
The LHD ‘JUAN CARLOS I’ is a multipurpose ship designed on a combination
of military and commercial standards and specifications. Her main dimensions
are: 231 meters length, 32 meters beam, 7,1 meters draught and 58 meters
high. The LHD has a crew of 295 and capacity to berth a total of 1,435
personnel.
WHEN:
The ship will participate in Trident Juncture 2015 as part of the Opposing
Forces from November 2nd till November 5th 2015.
WHO:
The LHD ‘JUAN CARLOS I’ belongs to the 2nd Fleet Naval Action Force
Group and is based in Rota Naval Base. It is the biggest navy ship ever built
in Spain. The ship has been designed for four mission profiles: AMPHIBIOUS
(capable of transporting a Marine Infantry Force to carry out landing,
supporting operations on land), FORCE PROJECTION
(transporting forces of any army to a theatre of operations), AIRCRAFT
CARRIER (a platform for carried-based naval aircraft, acting as a flight
deck for strategic projection airborne vectors (Navy´s Air Wing) and,
HUMANITARIAN AID OPERATIONS (non – combat operations,
humanitarian assistance, evacuation of crisis areas, hospital ship in
areas affected by natural disasters, etc.). LHD ‘JUAN CARLOS I’ took part in NATO
Exercises NOBLE MARINER 14 and CONTEX PHIBEX 15.
WHERE:
LHD JUAN CARLOS I will be deployed at sea during TRJE15.
