SENSORS AND TRANSDUCERS (SYLLABUS) University of Petrosani Faculty: The Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Program Level: Undergraduate Specialization(s): Control Engineering and Applied Informatics Year of study: 3rd Semester: I (fall semester) Number of ETCS credits awarded: 5 Class Objectives: Understanding the structural and functional principles of sensors and transducers used for various physical and nonelectric quantities and how to use them to measure these quantities. Explain the principles of operation of the sensor parameters and generators Interpretation of the measurement results by using transducers. Development of measurement schemes for different non electrical quantities Assimilating knowledge about the implementation of sensors and transducers into a control system structure. Lectures content: Content Introduction to measurement process. Structure, features and performance of the transducers Functional principles of parametric sensors. Simple connection. Bridge connection. Differential connection. Sensors and transducers for mechanical quantities, displacement and speed: resistive, inductive, capacitive and digital Sensors and transducers for the forces and moments: strain gauge and measurement circuits for strain gauge. Magnetostrictive, magnetoresistive and piezoelectric sensors. Sensors and transducers for fluids pressure measurement Sensors and transducers for flow measurement Sensors and transducers for temperature measurement: bimetallic, resistive, semiconductor and thermoelectric.
