WATER FITNESS CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
High-Intensity Water Fitness
You may experience fitness moves from water kickboxing, circuit training, dance-stepping, core training, tai-chi/ai chi, yoga or sports training.
And that’s just to name a few of the high-intensity influences in this shallow end class that’s sure to get you moving!
Deep/Shallow Aqua Intervals
This class offers a medium-to-high intensity workout that can be done in the deep or shallow end—your choice. A 40 minute cardio interval
class, interspersing short, high-intensity exercise with slower, steady endurance work is followed by muscle toning and a series of stretches to
increase flexibility. Start your Friday feeling strong and refreshed!
Aqua Yoga
Aqua Yoga incorporates deep breathing, gentle stretching and balance exercises, assisted by the support of the water. This low-intensity shallow
end class can be adapted for students at all levels, and beginners to yoga or water fitness are welcome. It leaves you feeling relaxed and renewed.
Total Body Water Workout
This is a medium-to-high-intensity deep water class. Use the water as resistance with a combination of no-impact aerobics, interval and
strength training, and flexibility/ROM exercises. Flotation belts support the body in deep water while ankle weights, gloves, noodles and
dumbbells enhance strength training. This class works the upper body, lower body and core for a satisfying full body workout.
Fluid Run
This multi-level class can be done in deep OR shallow water, you choose. It utilizes belts or ankle buoys with varying intensity intervals. It is
a great place to take your walking to another level or begin a running program without the joint impact of a treadmill or outdoors. Maintain a
high level heart rate by using proper running/walking technique and alignment in an interval format. Flexibility and shallow end walking would
finish off the session.
Aqua Cardio & Cuts
This class will consist of a 30-40 minute a medium-to-high intensity workout that can be done in the deep or shallow end—your choice. A 40
minute cardio interval class, interspersing short, high-intensity exercise with slower, steady endurance work. This will be followed by a water
resistance training program. Participants will find the program challenging and the routine simple. This motivating class will target all or most
major muscle groups.
Stretch and Tone
This is a self-help program of exercise designed to maintain and improve range of motion of joints and strengthen muscles. Stretch and flex
those muscles from your fingers to your toes in this low-intensity shallow water class—a great way to get your feet wet if you’re new to water
fitness!
Weekend Warrior Workout
This medium-to-high-intensity deep/shallow combo class may use choreography, interval training, partner work, or even games to get the heart
rate up and muscles working, but the one thing that’s guaranteed is a great workout to start your weekend off right!
Endurance Swim:
This is a one hour swim time for the beginner triathlete up to iron man triathlete. Come as long you need, there will be a cycle class after
endurance swim. So come in to get your brick workout in with your fellow triathlete.
Lap Lanes: There will always be at least one lane reserved for lap swimming during regular operational hours. Lap swimming is defined as
continuous progress back and forth in the lane. The number of lap lanes available at any given time is listed in the pool schedule. If all available
lap lanes are occupied, it is proper swimming etiquette to circle swim.
Open swim:
This is our family time in the water. All but two lap lanes are removed and the rest of the pool is available for recreational swimming. Open
swim times are listed in the pool schedule. **Children under 12 years old MUST be accompanied by an adult in the pool area. A list of
pool safety rules is posted in the pool area.
Equipment:
Kickboards, pull buoys, hand paddles, jogging belts, and fins are available for workout purpose only. They are not available for open swim. All
other YMCA equipment is for YMCA instructional purposes ONLY. Please do not bring any inflatable devices to the pool. Inflatable device are
not permitted.
Aqua Zumba®
This course is the "pool party" workout for all ages. The class is safe, effective and a challenging water-based workout. The class integrates the
Zumba moves and philosophy into traditional aqua fitness disciplines. Don't be fooled, this is not your normal aqua class. The moves are intense.
Remember, you will be moving your bodies for 45 or 60 minutes against the resistance of water. The movements are challenging and you can
really feel the muscles working against the resistance.
