Article # WP201403-ELS / Issue Date 04 Mar, 2014 White Paper Optimizing Image Quality and Dose in Advanced S-Detector System Sanghee Choi, Hoyeon Lee/ M.D. / Samsung Medical Center Introduction Samsung Medical Center (SMC) is one of the most renowned hospitals in Korea and is a prominent contributor in the Asian and global medical research community. SMC today consist of a hospital and cancer center which combined has a floor space of over 320,000 m2 with nearly 2000 beds manned by staffs of approximately 7,400 who treat over 8000 patients daily. The 655-bed Cancer Center is the largest of its kind in Asia and proves its excellence with one of the highest cancer operation survival rates in the world. SMC has been using the Samsung XGEO GC80/GU60 systems since 2012 and has experienced high image quality and patient satisfaction. XGEO GC80 In 2014 we are expecting to be able to provide an even more enhanced medical service with the new improved S-Detector (S4335-W) from Samsung Electronics. XGEO GF50 Applied systems The following systems can be installed with the new detector: GC80 for large-sized/general hospitals, Floor-mounted GF50 for small and medium-sized hospitals/clinics, and GR40W for Film/CR X-ray equipment. XGEO GR40CW 1 White Paper Optimizing Image Quality and Dose in Advanced S-Detector System Clinical evaluation Old Detector CASE 1 New Detector · Examination type : Chest AP · Exposure conditions : 75[kVp], 5.6[mAs] · Clinical opinion : Improvement in terms of spatial resolution and contrast. CASE 2 Old Detector New Detector 2 · Examination type : L-spine AP · Exposure conditions : 80[kVp], 32[mAs] · Clinical opinion : Psoas muscle is better expressed. White Paper Optimizing Image Quality and Dose in Advanced S-Detector System Old Detector New Detector CASE 3 · Examination type : Hand PA · Exposure conditions : 46[kVp], 2.9[mAs] · Clinical opinion: B one trabeculation is easily distinguishable, medulla & cortex differentiation works well and the overlapping complex joint can easily be distinguished. Old Detector New Detector CASE 4 · Examination type : Ankle AP · Exposure conditions : 52[kVp], 3.3[mAs] · Clinical opinion : E ven the bone with surgical device can easily be distinguished without artifacts. 3 White Paper Optimizing Image Quality and Dose in Advanced S-Detector System Based on the clinical results of the phantom image testing comparison to the previous detector, it can be observed that the new detector show improved image quality across-the-board. The results specifically showed improvement in image contrast and it can be determined that the overall image quality is excellent. Performance of S-Detector The new S4335-W wireless direct deposition FPD shows improvements over Samsung’s previous detectors DQE (Detective Quantum Efficiency) value. A DQE test shows an improvement of approximately 8% (65% → 73%, 0.1 lp/mm). Detective Quantum Efficiency [%] █ DQE Spatial Frequency [Ip/mm] 4
