COSMED is a privately owned Italian Company, which manufactures Cardio
Pulmonary Diagnostic Testing Equipment. Established in 1980, COSMED
primary goal has always been to improve the quality of its products and

COSMED started in 1980 designing and manufacturing spirometers. In the
late 80s, COSMED introduced a portable electronic desktop-sized spirometer named Pony, which was immediately successful in the European and Far

COSMED designed the first portable metabolic analyzer, the K4. This truly
innovative device broke new grounds with metabolic measurements and
rapidly became the best selling Oxygen measurement device in Education,

COSMED manufactures a full range of Spirometers, Pulmonary Function,
Cardio Pulmonary Exercise & Nutritional Assessment diagnostic equipment.
In 2011, COSMED further enhanced its already extensive offerings with the
acquisition of Life Measurement, Inc. (LMI), a leading US provider of body
composition assessment equipment in infants, children and adults.

A milestone in the desktop spirometry market!
Pony FX is the next generation desktop spirometer developed for pulmonary function screening. Pony FX is the perfect combination of tools for
all-inclusive spirometry. Built into this all-in-one unit are an alphanumeric
keyboard and a colour LCD display, which allow easy access to all functions
and immediate visual analysis in a standalone device. An integrated printer
produces high quality reports in few seconds. The Pony FX has internal
memory, which can store many patients/tests and comes with a powerful
and user-friendly PC software for data management. Real time test results
are possible when the device is connected to PC via a USB port. Built-in

Spiropalm 6MWT is a new medical device incorporating the latest design
for portable spirometry and a unique tool for the standardized Six-Minute
Walk Test (6MWT). The Spiropalm 6MWT provides the customer with a complete testing package with the ability to measure minute ventilation and
breathing pattern during walking together with a fully integrated pulse oximeter to monitor SpO2 and HR during the test. Spiropalm 6MWT allows full
assessment of ventilation limitation due to dynamic hyperinflation and air

The Q-Box is a new generation of body box for thoracic gas volume measurements. The measurement of Static Lung Volumes (TLC, RV, ITGV) and
Airway Resistance and Conductance (RAW, GAW) through body plethysmography technique is considered the Gold Standard and it has become a
necessity for any high-level laboratory of respiratory pathophysiology.
The Q-Box is a variable-pressure body plethysmograph (Constant-Volume)
with extremely fast times of stabilisation and calibration. The large cabin

The Quark i2m is a forced oscillation system for measuring total respiratory system impedance. A simple and fast (8 seconds) manoeuvre performed with the patient breathing normally into a measuring device.
The Quark i2m can be used with non-cooperative subjects, making it the
perfect solution for any pediatric department. An imperceptible, low intensity and high frequency (4-48 Hz) pressure signal is applied while breathing
and after a few seconds the software provides total respiratory impedance,
including the two components: resistance (R) and reactance (X).

The Gold Standard in Nutritional Assessment
The Quark RMR is a new generation metabolimeter designed to measure
Resting Energy Expenditure (REE) through indirect calorimetry provided
in a compact bed-side solution. It is designed to accurately and instantaneously measure energy requirements of either spontaneously breathing
subjects or mechanically assisted patients. The Quark RMR additionally
identifies the metabolism substrate utilization, allowing improved nutrition and evaluating nutritional therapy. It is easy to use, with high accuracy

Fitmate is an accurate indirect calorimeter, which measures Oxygen
Consumption (VO2) in real time in spontaneously breathing subjects.
Fitmate is a desktop-sized device with a large LCD screen and in-built printer
that allows the user to perform tests without a computer. Resting Metabolic
Rate (RMR) testing is simple, fast (15 minutes) and a report printout is provided in seconds via the thermal printer. In addition to the measurement

Accurate and safe infant body composition assessment
through Air Displacement Plethysmography technique
The PEA POD is the world’s only Air Displacement Plethysmography system
using whole body densitometry to determine body composition (Fat and
Fat-Free Mass) in infants weighing between 1 and 8 kgs. Each PEA POD is
a complete turnkey system based on the same Gold Standard operating
principle as hydrostatic (underwater) weighting. This technique relies on
a mass and volume measurement (both performed within the unit). Once
body density (Density = Mass/Volume) is determined, the PEA POD uses
known (or user customized) densitometric equations to calculate percent
of Fat and Fat-Free Mass. The PEA POD is extremely simple to operate, with
software prompts guiding the operator through each step of the process.
From start to finish, a PEA POD test takes about 7 minutes. The accuracy of
the PEA POD has been shown to be very high against reference techniques
in a number of research publications.
