Director Noell Krughoff has selected the cast for Shelby County Players’ production of To
Kill a Mockingbird, as dramatized by Christopher Sergel. Assisted by husband Tom
Krughoff, Noell is rehearsing a cast of 20 speaking parts for this ambitious stage
presentation of the beloved Pulitzer Prize winning novel.
Daniel Ott will perform the important role of Atticus. Daniel has high school performance
credits as well as SCP plays, but he says that Atticus is his dream role. Although
younger than the character he plays, Daniel brings a depth of understanding to the role.
His love of writing poetry will assist him in delivering the eloquent lines from the novel.
Tawni Morningstar portrays the play’s narrator, the adult Jean Louise Finch. A native of
Shelby County, Tawni brings professional theatre experience to our stage. She recently
worked in New York and Connecticut at the Westport County Playhouse, a theatre
renovated by Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman along with Anne Keofe, and she
collaborated with Phylicia Rashad as dresser for costumes for A Raisin in the Sun. She
also lists among her credits surviving Hurricane Sandy.

One of the many challenges of this play has been finding young actors to play the roles of
the Jem, Scout, and Dill. Of the approximately 25 students who auditioned, three
talented young actors were selected.
Playing the part of Jem is eighth-grader Dyllan Icenogle. Fortunately for our community,
Dyllan has a strong interest in the arts. Previous experience includes the role of Tweedle
Dee in Alice in Wonderland. He loves The Beatles and hopes to pursue his love of the
arts through video games/console design.
In the role of Scout is eleven-year-old Rachel Purnell. Although this is her first big part,
her roles as a boy in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and a playing card in Alice in
Wonderland, provided valuable theatre experience for the tomboy role of Scout. As a
fifth-grade student at Brandywine Elementary, Rachel participates in Math Bowl and Math
Pentathlon.
Cindy Leahy
Sean Garrison plays the role of Dill, the “pocket Merlin” whose imagination provides
comic relief. A natural on the stage, Sean’s other activities include soccer and the SMS
swim team where he competes with free style, breast, and backstrokes.
Theatre patrons will not believe that fourteen-year-old Samantha Toiler plays the part of
Mayella Ewell. Sam’s mature delivery of a difficult role belies her age. Her recent
experience includes It Was a Dark and Stormy Night at SHS and The Best Christmas
Pageant Ever with SCP. In addition to her acting, she maintains an A average in school
and is a member of the Varsity Golf Team.
New to our stage, Ray Wilkins, the minister of the West Street United Methodist Church,
plays Reverend Sykes. Rev. Wilkins performed the role of Dr. Martin Luther King in
Ebony Footprints in the Sands of Time in Indianapolis. He loves to go deep-sea fishing
off of the coast of Louisiana when he has time.
Danyel Comstock, who performs the role of Calpurnia, is pleased with her first acting
opportunity. She and her husband Barry co-own the Sweet Tooth. He calls her the
Queen of Hearts because she enjoys anything artistic.

Patrick Trefun lends the authority of his deep voice to the part of Sheriff Heck Tate.
Lucky for SCP, Pat, a CPA, was looking for some relief from the tedium of tax season.
Connor Cahill performs the iconic part of Boo Radley as well as that of Nathan Radley.
As a Franklin Township Middle School student, Conner has performed in The Diary of
Anne Frank and the The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and still finds time to participate in
soccer, football, and basketball.
William Brown, a gifted SCP actor, will tackle the part of Tom Robinson. Olivia Brinkman,
who also has theatre experience with SCP and school, will play the role of Helen
Robinson. Bill Eiler, another newcomer to SCP, is Walter Cunningham,
Theatre patrons will recognize other veteran actors on the stage including Lindy Meyer,
Carey Nigh, Cecilia Ortiz, Lisa Isaacs, and Sandy Learned.
By building sets, collecting costumes and props, the crew is creating the world of
Maycomb, Alabama, of 1935. Theatre patrons can see performances at the Strand on
March 15, 16 (7:30) and 17 (2:00) and March 22, 23 (7:30) and 24 (2:00). Tickets can be
purchased at Mickey’s T-Mart, online (shelbycountyplayers.com), and before each
performance at the theatre. Credit cards are accepted.
