World War II – Review Sheet

Test Information: Your test on World War II and the events leading up to it will be on Friday, February 24. It will
consist of multiple choice, matching, true/false, a maps section and a short answer portion. No notes will be allowed
on the exam. Use your binder and the textbook (pages 464-473, 479-485, 511-513, 536-550, 559-565) to review the
following information in preparation for the exam. At the bottom of the page appears the topics and directions for the
short answer portion of the test. The terms below do not include all of the terms from our previous matching quiz,
which may also appear on your test. Use the “Between the Wars” and “WW II Test Review Terms” Quizlets sets to
review these terms.
Assignment: Each student must turn in on the day of the test a chart that identifies and provides the significance of
at least 25 of the terms listed below. The definitions will be collected prior to the test. Please number your terms.
Your chart should have three headings: 1) the term/person, 2) a sentence that defines the term or identifies the person,
and 3) a sentence that explains the importance of the term or person. Alternately, students may complete any 5 of 6
Quizlet activities for the “WW II Test Review Terms.”

Directions: On the day of the exam, you will respond to TWO of the following topics on a separate sheet of lined
paper. One topic will be randomly eliminated, and you may not write on that one. You are expected to write a
well-organized and detailed response to both of the topics you choose. You do not need to write essay, but you must
include specific examples to support your responses. No notes are allowed and you may not use the multiple choice
section of the test to assist you in drafting your responses.
1. Identify the treaty that ended World War I and discuss its impact on Germany. Additionally, identify the name of
the new German government that took over immediately following WW I and the problems it faced.
2. How and why did Adolf Hitler become the leader of Germany? What were his views and those of his political
party? How did he/they appeal to the German people? In your response, provide information that was occurring
both inside and outside of Germany that led him to become the German leader.
3. Define appeasement and provide at least three specific examples of it as it applies to events leading up to WW II.
Additionally, explain why historians consider it to be a major cause of World War II.
4. Describe in detail ONE major air, land, and/or sea battle from World War II listed below. In your response, explain
who fought, when it was, where it was. Most importantly, conclude your response with an explanation of this
event’s overall significance to the war.
