t Program Overview Master of Science in Management Information Systems Certificate Programs Certificate programs provide a concentrated focus for professionals looking to expand their knowledge in a specific area or who want to familiarize themselves with the core Master of Science (M.S.) in Management Information Systems curriculum. Courses may be taken in any quarter of the year, and up to 16 credit hours may be applied toward the M.S. in Management Information Systems for students who are accepted into the degree-seeking program. Courses must be completed at a GPA of 3.0 or higher to apply toward the M.S. in Management Information Systems. Courses can be taken in the traditional evening/weekend, on-campus format or online, and may be applied to only one certificate. All students beginning a certificate program must schedule an appointment with the M.S. in Management Information Systems program director by calling (630) 829-6220. A business or systems analyst is a bridge between these areas, working with both sides to propose changes to processes and systems to meet the needs of the business. The required courses are: MIS 546 Systems Analysis and Design (4) MIS 654 Enterprise-Wide Information Systems (4) MIS 674 Database Management Systems (4) 4 credit hours in Management Information Systems electives Business Analytics Business Analytics refers to the skills, technologies, applications and practices for iterative exploration in and investigation of past business performance to gain insight and drive business planning. It focuses on developing new insights and understanding of business performance based on data and statistical methods. The required courses are: MIS 659 Business Analytics (4) MIS 674 Database Management Systems (4) MIS 663 Data Mining and Business Intelligence (4) MIS 677 Decision Support and Knowledge-based Systems (4) Electronic Commerce The Electronic Commerce Certificate provides students with an understanding of how to make better use of the Internet in both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors. The certificate is not limited to what is typically considered e-commerce. It also considers use of Web 2.0 tools. IMC is the management of all organizational communications to build positive relationships with customers and other stakeholders, stressing marketing to the individual by understanding their needs, motivations, attitudes and behaviors. IMC emphasizes Internet-based marketing communication tools along with traditional communication tools used by marketing professionals. Project management deals with how to initiate, plan, budget, control and close projects on schedule and within financial constraints.
