Eureka API 610 Line-Shaft Pumps For High Viscosity Operation Introduction: For the first time Eureka Pumps has performed a full scale high viscosity pump performance test, for cargo pumps simulating offshore operational conditions pumping crude oil with high viscosity. The objectives was to verify that the pump and motor would perform satisfactorily with cold crude oil. Specific viscosity requirements: 1) Start-up test@ min. flow, viscosity: 2057 cP 2) Performance test, viscosity 1075cP 830m3/h, 125 mlc The test was carried out as part of Eureka scope under the Hebron Crude Booster pump PO in collaboration with the customer WPF/Exxon Mobil. The test was successfully executed as a Joint venture between Eureka Pumps and Cetim Lab.; an external test laboratory located in Nantes, France. Unique for the test is the combination of sustainable high flow, combined with a high viscous fluid, and the test verified that the Eureka 2stage vertically suspended API610 was capable of meeting operational challenges far within the given requirements. In addition to the Hebron requirements, a viscosity of 3075 cP was also tested with a capacity of 254m3/h About the Hebron Field: Hebron is a heavy oil field using a stand-alone concrete gravity based structure (GBS) designed to withstand sea ice, icebergs, meteorological- and oceanographic conditions and store approximately 1.2 million barrels of crude oil. The oil field production estimate is more than 700 million barrels of recoverable resources. The field is located offshore Newfoundland and Labrador in the Jeanne d'Arc Basin 350 km southeast of St. John's, the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador. Pump Test Description: The high viscous crude oil was simulated using Oil type ISO VG 1000. The 2-stage vertically suspended pump was driven by the top, dry mounted Hebron job el. motor. The closed test loop contained additionally i.a. heat exchanger, 2 control valves and a coriolis flowmeter. A plan 53B mechanical seal system secured oil/gas leakage through the pump rotor. Test loop arrangement Conclusion: The viscosity test was successfully executed 2nd-3rd of July 2014 in accordance with the technical test requirements set forward in the PO, and in accordance with on-time project schedule; which both demonstrates Eureka Pump’s capability and experience to accomplish all customer project requirements related to demanding pilot test projects. Pump performance Curve (head, power & efficiency) at viscosity 1075 cP. Pump performance curves shows actual flow 980 m3/h at 125m head, which is 18% higher than PO required flow 830 m3/h.
