When it ends up on land, it will either soak into the earth and become part of the "ground water" that plants and animals use to drink or it may run over the soil and collect in the oceans, lakes or rivers where the cycle starts ALL OVER AGAIN! qì tài - gas/vapor form shuǐ xún huán - water cy cle The earth has a limited amount of water. That water keeps going around and around and around and around and in what we call the "Water Cy cle". This cy cle is made up of a few main parts: ev aporation (and transpiration) condensation precipitation collection 河流 hé liú - river 洋 yáng - ocean 海 hǎi - sea 浸入 jìn rù - infiltration Infiltration is the downward movement of water through soil. 液态 yè tài - liquid form 湖 hú - lake 溪 xī - stream 热能 rè néng - heat energy 能量 néng liàng - energy 蒸发 zhēng fā - evaporation Evaporation is when the sun heats up water in rivers or lakes or the ocean and turns it into vapor or steam. The water vapor or steam leaves the river, lake or ocean and goes into the air. 蒸腾 融化 降水 zhēng téng - transpiration Transpiration is the process by which moisture is carried through plants from roots to small pores on the underside of leaves, where it changes to vapor and is released to the atmosphere. Transpiration is essentially evaporation of water from plant leaves. róng huà - melt jiàng shuǐ - precipitation Precipitation occurs when so much water has condensed that the air cannot hold it anymore. The clouds get heavy and water falls back to the earth in the form of rain, hail, sleet or snow. 雨 yǔ - rain 雪 xuě - snow
