Honor's PreAlgebra Polygons (chapter 105)
Polygons
Honor’s Pre-Algebra (chapter 10-5)
Find the sum of the measures of
the interior angles of each polygon.
Polygon: A closed figure
with 3 sides or more.
quadrilateral
Sides: The line segments that
form a polygon.
Vertex: A point where two
sides of a polygon intersect.
octagon
Types of polygons:
3-sided
triangle
4-sided
quadrilateral
5-sided
pentagon
6-sided
hexagon
7-sided
heptagon
8-sided
octagon
9-sided
nonagon
10-sided
decagon
12-sided
dodecagon
pentagon
Find the measure of each exterior
angle and each interior angle of
each regular polygon.
regular decagon
Vertices: More than one vertex.
Diagonal: The line segment that
connects two nonconsecutive vertices.
regular hexagon
Regular Polygon: A polygon that is
equilateral (all sides are congruent)
and equiangular (all angles are
congruent).
Interior Angles: Angles inside the
polygon.
Find the perimeter of each
regular polygon.
equilateral triangle with sides
33 ft long
Exterior Angles: When a side of a
polygon is extended, this special angle is
formed. (The measure of all of the
exterior angle equal 360º.
Interior Angle Formula: (n - 2)180
n à # of sides
To find the Exterior Angle:
360º ÷ # of ∠'s
regular heptagon with sides
5.5 cm long
