My name is Frank Duncan, a dentist in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Our office treats patients of all ages with family, cosmetic, sedation and implant dentistry. There have been dramatic improvements in the world of dentistry. Yet, there are thousands of people in our area who put up with dentures that simply make their lives miserable. DENTURES HAVE EVOLVED! Just like automobiles, computers, televisions, watches, phones and almost everything that touches your life today-technology has created an improvement. You can now feel better with a natural smile snap in denture. I hope to inform you of some of the options now available to patients without teeth or those fast approaching this predicament. If you would like to discuss your options, I invite you to call now for a free consultation. And I mean absolutely free. If your thinking what's the catch? There is never a catch at my office. We operate on NO lectures, NO hurried appointments, and NO pressure ever. Its our theme! FRUSTRATED WITH YOUR DENTURES??? Do your teeth slip, pop, gag, move, fall out, fail to chew certain foods, click, smack, whistle, require loads of adhesive, make you look old, embarrass you when in public, make you sore and sometimes painful? If the answer to any of these questions is YES, you are not alone. DANGERS OF WEARING ILL FITTING TEETH Destruction of your jawbone Jawbone gradually shrinks over time. Your dentures don't shrink. When that denture no longer fits exactly to your jawbone more bone destruction occurs at a faster rate. Some people are proud that they have worn the same set of teeth for 20-30 years but often we discover much greater bone damage than what normally should have occurred. Dentures need bone to fit well. Don't speed up the process by wearing an ill fitting denture. You look older As jawbone shrinks a sunken facial appearance often makes people look older. There is an increase in deep age lines and wrinkles. A new denture may be able to lengthen the face, eliminating some of these unwanted features and without plastic surgery. Many older denture teeth wore down early. This shrinks the bite and thus the face. Newer teeth have been invented which resist wear much better. However, the old "style" teeth are still used in denture construction. Know what you are buying when you get a new set of teeth. The old adage ''you get what you pay for" can be updated to ''you may not get what you are paying for". Know that your teeth are the best quality available. Newer teeth make your smile look vibrant and alive. These teeth are a "work of art". In most cases these teeth look to the untrained eye just like natural teeth! High quality durable plastic teeth are technological marvels. Today's denture can be custom made for you. Look and feel better without anyone knowing you wear a denture. Undetected oral cancer Guess what? Patients without teeth still need dental checkups. How often does your MD look in your mouth? Hundreds of diseases occur in the mouth. Oral cancer has the most serious consequence. It may appear as a red or white sore or bump which mayor may not be painful. Other signs may be swollen lymph nodes of the neck, and difficulty swallowing and speaking. Most times oral cancer may not even be noticed by the person affected by it until it is too late. This is especially true for denture wearers. Please see your dentist for an oral cancer screening! Poor nutrition Dentures that don't fit don't chew correctly. This can prevent your body from digesting food and receiving necessary nutrients. This can impact your total health and shorten your life span. Speech problems If the teeth move and flop around the cheek and tongue you struggle to form words and control the denture. The ability to speak involves the tongue, teeth, lips, cheeks and the roof of the mouth. A denture that's properly fitted allows all 5 of these components to work together properly. RESEARCH YOUR NEW SET OF TEETH Hopefully, this report is a start to your research on obtaining a more comfortable denture. Check the internet. A very good site is mymdistory.com. You can also call my office for a FREE CONSULTATION to find out which options would best suit your specific needs. DID YOU KNOW? Most dentists recommend a new set of teeth every 5-7 years-but the average denture is 20 years old? The sore spots caused by loose dentures may become infected? Dentures can discolor or change shape if they dry out? Dentures can warp if they are placed in boiling water? Scrubbing your dentures too vigorously can cause damage? Certain medications can affect the fit and comfort of your dentures? III fitting dentures can cause chronic bad breath? AMAZING BREAKTHROUGHS IN DENTURE SCIENCE That now allow me to make dramatic improvements in the quality of life for my patients with dentures. As with all dental procedures, we would like to evaluate your specific needs to see which options would work best for you. There are 2 main categories of options- those involving dental implants and those which don't. Dental implants are the biggest advancement that dentistry has ever seen. We can now use the same type of metal used in hip implants and knee replacement to replace missing teeth and "lock" dentures into place. CHOICES FOR PATIENTS WHO AREN'T INTERESTED IN IMPLANTS Refitting your current denture If your dentures are only a few years old and you like how they look, sometimes we can use new acrylic material to refit your existing teeth to the new shape of your mouth. A new set of teeth Best results usually involve making a new set of teeth. There are an incredible number of tooth shapes and colors available, there are even several different gum colors. We will help you pick a shape and shade that best fits your face. No two faces are alike, no two mouths are alike and no two dentures should be alike. We are also particular about where we place the teeth. Too much tooth or too much pink gum makes for a bad looking denture. Remember- ifit's a good fitting denture no one should be able to tell you are wearing a denture! Before even looking in your mouth, I will discuss in depth your wants and desires in your new set of teeth. I will then do everything possible to help you achieve this result. DENTAL IMPLANTS-FINALLY A BETTER WAY Just as medical doctors are able to do knee and hip replacements as well as many other parts of the body, there is a way to replace teeth. In fact, the same type of titanium metal used in these joint replacements is also used in dental implants. A dental implant is basically a metal rod which is placed into the jawbone. This rod then supports a single crown or multiple implants support multiple crowns or a denture. A denture snaps into place on implants. The denture is "locked in" and does not move. Patients with an implant denture often say that they chew their food like the remember chewing years ago when they had their own teeth. I'm especially excited about the evolution of mini-implants for dentures. Most patients find all the aspects of the procedure very tolerable including the cost. Mini-implants are the future of implant retained dentures. At the other end of the spectrum, some implant designs result in patients not even needing dentures at all. Depending on how many implants are placed we can design crowns or bridges to fit over the implants much like we design them to fit over natural teeth. They are literally "BRAND NEW TEETIr'. A WORD ON IMPLANT PLACEMENT A board certified oral surgeon places all our implants. He has many years of experience being involved from literally the beginning of implants. If a surgical problem arises it can be properly handled, IV sedation is available. Cone beam imaging (which is a very expensive x-ray machine) is on site for precision implant placement. Quite frankly, I believe using an oral surgeon with a vast array of surgical experience makes me feel better about the procedure. I'm particular and I particularly want excellent results every time humanly possible. P.S. Being particular does not cost the patient more money but can save a whole lot of heartache and more money in the future. FREQUENLTY ASKED QUESTIONS I think its time for new teeth? What do I do? Call our office at (270) 901-0497 ask for Jodi and she will arrange a time for your free consultation. Where is your office? We are located at 1212 Ashley Circle Suite #4 Bowling Green, KY in Ford's Plaza, on the same block as Ford's Furniture. What will my free consultation be like? You will be treated like a new patient to our office. After filling out your paperwork you will be escorted to a treatment room. I will talk with you about your concerns, hopes and desires for new teeth. I will evaluate your mouth and then discuss treatment options that you might be a candidate for. There is absolutely no obligation and no pressure to do any work. If you like what you hear and see, we could then schedule a visit to start your work. Do you take insurance? We are participating providers with Delta Premier and Dental Health OptionslHealth Resources. We accept assignment on a number of major dental plans. Please note there is usually no coverage for implant related dentistry. Do you take payments? For those who qualify, we offer CareCredit with interest free payments for 6 or 12 months and low interest payment plans for up to 5 years. You can pre-qualify prior to your visit at CareCredit.com. How much do your teeth cost? It is hard to quote prices because every patient has a unique set of variables. I can quote a range of what to expect. As of January 2010 a new set of premium upper and lower denture can be made for about $3200. Depending on the payment plan you select, this could be done for as little as $76 per month. Refitting your current dentures might run anywhere from $700-$900 depending upon their condition. It is much more difficult to quote a fee for dental implants. While they are much less expensive than a knee replacement, it is still a major medical procedure. On the lower end of the spectrum with the least of the surgical procedures, "locking" in a lower denture with 4 mini-implants might be accomplished for $5400 total cost including the surgeon. More involved procedures will run higher than this. Once again, payment plans can be arranged for those who qualify. For patients who would like to have implants but are concerned about the cost, I sometimes point out that teeth are used pretty much every minute of every day. Even if you are not "chewing" something your mouth is still trying to hold your denture in place. Every time you speak or open your mouth your teeth are used. Often for the price of a used car or the price of a new deck on a house, we are able to give you back the ability to eat and talk with confidence and stability you haven't had in years. And dental implants will probably last much longer than either a car or deck! We can now eliminate the constant aggravation of dentures! 32 Million people wear dentures, 20 million have fit, function and appearance problems! You may have forgotten how good dentures can look and feel. People whose dentures are too old often put up with unnecessary embarrassment and discomfort. Some even change their lives, spending more time alone, or avoid laughing, smiling or eating their favorite foods. If this sounds like your situation, it is time to talk to a dental professional about bringing back that youthful smile and confident feeling. Are there any surprises I should know about? I doubt it. My office is easy going and so are the visits. We are not a corporate dental office churning out patients in a numbers game. We will always take time to talk with you and answer your questions. My team are nice people. You will not encounter a rude secretary and you will never be pressured by anyone at this office to buy treatment. We are committed to making sure that you have a positive experience at our office. We want nothing more than you to rave about us in a good way to your friends and family. WE WELCOME YOUR CALL!
