CompTIA, TECNA, and TechVoice Join Coalition of Small Business Innovators
CSBI Welcomes High Tech Trade Groups
Washington, D.C. (March 4, 2014) – The Coalition of Small Business Innovators (CSBI) announced
today the addition of several new members – the Computing Technology Industry Association
(CompTIA), the Technology Councils of North America (TECNA), and TechVoice. CSBI is a national,
non-partisan coalition of organizations dedicated to stimulating sustained, private investment in small,
highly innovative companies focusing on the development of new technologies.
CompTIA is the voice of the world’s information technology (IT) industry, with member companies
spanning the IT channel worldwide. TECNA represents almost 50 IT and technology trade
organizations that, in turn, represent more than 16,000 technology-related companies in North America.
TechVoice is a partnership of CompTIA, TECNA, and participating regional technology associations.
Collectively, TechVoice represents thousands of technology companies across the country employing
millions of workers.
“CompTIA is thrilled to join the Coalition of Small Business Innovators and looks forward to working with
our fellow CSBI members to spur investment in innovative small businesses,” said Todd Thibodeaux,
President & CEO of CompTIA. “CompTIA members drive innovation and fuel job creation, and the work
CSBI is doing will support their growth and ensure that America continues to lead the way in IT and
other 21st century industries.”
CSBI believes that small business innovation is fundamental to the long-term growth of the U.S.
economy. The Coalition supports the Start-up Jobs and Innovation Act, introduced by Sens. Robert
Menendez (D-NJ) and Pat Toomey (R-PA) and recently co-sponsored by Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS).
The Start-up Jobs and Innovation Act would allow companies to partner with their investors to conduct
research through R&D Partnership Structures. Only start-up and small companies dedicated to R&D
would be eligible to use R&D Partnership Structures, so investors will be incentivized to invest at an
earlier stage, when the capital is most needed. The bill also includes important reforms to the capital
gains treatment of small business stock, business expensing for growing companies, and rules
governing small firm accounting methods.
“Speaking on behalf of technology associations across the country, TECNA is fully supportive of the
Coalition’s efforts to modernize the U.S. tax code in an effort to sustain and stimulate innovation in small
business,” said Steven G. Zylstra, Chairman of TECNA and President & CEO of the Arizona Technology
Council. “TECNA is pleased to join as a member and looks forward to working with the Coalition to
enact legislation to promote R&D that is fundamental to the long-term growth of the U.S. economy.”
CSBI members represent small businesses that devote their time and assets to important R&D, pushing
the boundaries of science and technology during a long and difficult development process. The Start-up
Jobs and Innovation Act will promote long-term investment in innovative industries, providing the capital
necessary to develop the next generation of breakthrough technologies while creating high-quality
American jobs and ensuring America remains competitive globally.
