A Service of the Word, Prayer, and Sacrament The Welcome and Greeting The Call to Worship Leader: People: Leader: People: All: Immortal, Invisible arr. Cindy Berry Psalm 107:1,2,8,9 Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble. Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things. Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! The Hymn of Praise Taste the goodness of the Lord: welcomed home to his embrace, All his love as blood outpoured seals the pardon of his grace. Can I doubt his love for me when I trace that love’s design? By the cross of Calvary I am his and he is mine. By the cross of Calvary I am his and he is mine. Jesus Whispers How Great Thou Art The Ministry Report Trinity Hymnal (TH) No. 44 Patrick Bush The Reading of the Scripture John 20:19-23 19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.” The Preaching of God’s Word Sent by the Son The Collection Alan Carter Proverbs 22:9 Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor. The Musical Offering Breathe on Me, Breath of God arr. John Innes The Invitation: Words, Welcome, Warning 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration, And there proclaim, my God, how great thou art. Refrain The Prayer of Thanksgiving The Prayer of Adoration and Invocation Isaiah 30:18 The Communion Hymns Isaiah 44:21,22 How Deep the Father’s Love for Us My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. TH No. 521 Refrain: On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand. When darkness veils his lovely face, I rest on his unchanging grace; In every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil. Refrain His oath, his covenant, his blood support me in the whelming flood; When all around my soul gives way, he then is all my hope and stay. Refrain When he shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in him be found; Dressed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne. Refrain On Jordan’s Stormy Banks I Stand On Jordan’s stormy banks I stand and cast a wishful eye To Canaan’s fair and happy land, where my possessions lie. All o’er those wide extended plains shines one eternal day; There God the Son forever reigns and scatters night away. Refrain: I am bound (women echo), I am bound (women echo), (All) I am bound for Promised Land. I am bound (women echo), I am bound (women echo), (All) I am bound for Promised Land. No chilling winds nor poisonous breath can reach that healthful shore; Sickness, sorrow, pain, and death are felt and feared no more. Refrain When shall I reach that happy place and be forever blest? When shall I see my Father’s face and in his bosom rest? Refrain 2x © 1997 Christopher Miner. Words: Samuel Stennett. Music: Christopher Miner. CCLI Song No. 3251573. CCLI License No. 2483564. The Benediction The Sending The Distribution of the Elements The Prayer of Confession Remember these things, O Jacob, and Israel, for you are my servant; I formed you; you are my servant; O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me. I have blotted out your transgressions like a cloud and your sins like mist; return to me, for I have redeemed you. We receive your great mercy, O God! Kristy Booker The Prayers of the People And when I think that God, his Son not sparing, Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in, That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin. Refrain The Offer of Forgiveness © 2004 Clint Wells Music. Taken from the Gadsby Hymnal #180. Words: Joseph Hart. Music: Clint Wells and Brian T. Murphy. CCLI Song No. 5398427. When thro’ the woods and forest glades I wander And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees, When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur, And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze; Refrain Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him. His forever, only his – who the Lord and me shall part? Ah, with what a rest of bliss Christ can fill the loving heart. Heav’n and earth may fade and flee, firstborn light in gloom decline, But while God and I shall be, I am his and he is mine. But while God and I shall be, I am his and he is mine. Thee we own, a perfect Savior, only source of all that’s good: Every grace and every favor come to us through Jesus’ blood. Refrain Hear the whole conclusion of it; great or good, whate’er we call; God, or King, or Priest, or Prophet, Jesus Christ is all in all. Refrain Refrain: Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee: How great thou art, how great thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee: How great thou art, how great thou art! The Call to Confession Refrain: Jesus whispers this sweet sentence, “Son, thy sins are all forgiven.” Faith he gives us to believe, hearing ears and seeing eyes. When we live on Jesus’ merit, then we worship God aright; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit then we savingly unite. Refrain O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder Consider all the worlds thy hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy pow’r thro’out the universe displayed. Leader: People: Lamb of God, we fall before thee, humbly trusting in thy cross; That alone be all our glory; all things else are vain and loss. The Gathering Music The Prelude The Hymn of Rejoicing Loved with Everlasting Love Loved with everlasting love, drawn by grace that love to know, Spirit sent from Christ above, thou dost witness it is so. O this full and precious peace from his presence all divine; In a love that cannot cease, I am his and he is mine. In a love that cannot cease, I am his and he is mine. Heav’n above is deeper blue; earth around is sweeter green; That which glows in every hue Christless eyes have never seen. Birds in song his glories show; flow’rs with richer beauties shine Since I know, as now I know, I am his and he is mine; Since I know, as now I know, I am his and he is mine. arr. Tom Fettke TH No. 703 The Postlude Partaking of the Lord’s Supper at Faith If you know and love the Lord Jesus Christ, are earnestly repentant of your sins, are willing to renew your commitment to Christ, and are a member in good standing with a branch of Christ’s church that preaches Jesus Christ as the only way to God the Father, we welcome you to partake of this sacrament with us. An usher will dismiss rows starting at the back of each section. Please come forward using the center aisle, and wait until an usher directs you to one of four stations. We encourage families to come together. Please take and eat a piece of bread from the elder, and then take and drink a cup, consuming the elements while you are at the front. Trays containing wine are marked with ribbon; plain trays contain grape juice. Return to your seat by way of the outside aisle. If you cannot come forward, please ask someone near you to alert a server, and an elder will bring the elements to you. Children and adults who have not yet professed their faith in Christ or been admitted to the Table are encouraged to come forward with their families for prayer. Children and adults should partake only after professing their faith publicly.
