Topic Theme and Overview:
As part of a unit on animals we will be looking at a range of
animals and how they are structures. We will also be
exploring the foods they eat and whether they are
carnivores, herbivores or omnivores.
Vocabulary:
birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals
invertebrates, carnivores, herbivores, omnivores

During this unit:
All children will: recognise different animals and name some of them; know that animals are
structured in different ways and be able to discuss the kind of foods they eat.
Most children will: recognise a range of animals and name some of them. They will explain
the structure of different animals and be able to discuss whether they are carnivores,
herbivores or omnivores
Some children will: recognise and name a wide variety of animals and be able to describe
their structure and why they look the way they do. They will be able to discuss whether the
animals are carnivores, herbivores or omnivores and be able to explain their reasons.
