The Department of Anatomy and Medical Imaging is one of eight departments in the School of
Medical Sciences within the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS) at the University of
Auckland. It has the vision to be recognised locally and internationally for Medical Imaging education
and research excellence by promoting and fostering a community of learners and a community of
practice, through engaging our partners and stakeholders (both District Health Boards and private
providers) in all academic and research activities.
In this substantive, tenure track position as Associate Professor/Professor Medical Imaging, you will

teaching of Medical Imaging, including graduate student supervision. The University of Auckland

You will also serve as Head of Radiology, a division within the Department of Anatomy and Medical

in the discipline of medical imaging, as well as providing guidance in clinical research projects; for
example in hybrid imaging, molecular imaging, clinical imaging, image guided therapy, radiation
therapy planning with speciality in areas such as oncology or cardiovascular. There is a preference for
a clinical appointee who will further enhance the clinical research profile of the department, however
this is not essential.
You will also provide academic and clinical leadership and support for Medical Imaging facilities at the
University of Auckland, including the Centre for Advanced MRI (CAMRI). This will include advice and
assistance in the strategic development of Medical Imaging infrastructure, liaison with internal
stakeholders and DHB and private providers to maintain stability and growth in medical imaging.
CAMRI is based in FMHS and equipped with two MRI, a number of ultrasound machines, and is
working towards the purchase of New Zealand's first PET MRI in the near future. CAMRI's main
purpose is to support basic and clinical research and enhance patient outcomes through the provision
of leading edge technical equipment.
