Unit : Energy
Teachers: Renfro
Energy
Unit Big Idea: Energy is the force that causes matter to move.
S8P2. Scholars will be familiar with the forms and transformations of energy.
a. Explain energy transformation in terms of the Law of Conservation of Energy.
b. Explain the relationship between potential and kinetic energy.
c. Compare and contrast the different forms of energy (heat, light, electricity, mechanical motion, sound) and their characteristics.
d. Describe how heat can be transferred through matter by the collisions of atoms (conduction) or through space (radiation). In a liquid or gas, currents will facilitate
the transfer of heat (convection).

Padlet assignment
WORK PERIOD
*Sub Assignment
Scholars will answer
question on pp. 247 1-8 in
their notebooks from the
text.
Scholars will complete a
graphic organizer for PE and
KE. This assignment will
allow them to explore the
forms of energy that are PE
and KE, and what is not
considered energy.
CLOSING
Answer the EQ
Scholars will complete their
graphic organizers on PE and
KE. They will also be assigned
their end of the unit STEM
project, which requires them
to be environmental scientists
and examine alternative forms
of energy that exist in their
everyday lives. The project is
due in 2 weeks and they will
work on it on their own time.
Ticket out of the Door
Scholars will begin working on
their end of the unit STEM
project with their partners.
They will begin research and
ask any questions they have
before they have to work on
their projects on their own
time. If students did not
complete their graphic
organizers, they will complete
these as well.
3-2-1
Students will take a quiz on
the difference between
kinetic and potential
energy, and the forms of
energy that fall under these
categories. This will be
graded in class for
immediate feedback. Time
permitting, they will work
on their STEM projects.
