1. The law of conservation states that: Energy cannot be created or destroyed – it
can only be transformed.
2. In every energy conversion some energy is always converted into thermal
energy. It is known as heat energy.
3. A bouncy ball falls from a shelf. Here gravitational potential energy is converted
into kinetic energy.
4. In photosynthesis light energy is transformed in chemical energy.
5. A rubber band stretched between a person’s fingers is an example of elastic
potential energy.
6. Potential energy (rest) + Kinetic energy (motion) = Mechanical Energy.
7. In a flashlight (when a battery produces light) what is the energy
transformation? Chemical to light to thermal.
8. At the top of a hill a rollercoaster has gravitational potential energy then changes
to kinetic energy as it comes to the bottom of the hill.
9. Nathan has a mini-truck that runs on batteries. What type of energy is being
displayed when the truck is off? Chemical potential
10. When Cannon plays his electric guitar electrical energy is being transformed into
sound energy.
11. Imagine you have three different color bird feeders filled with the same amount
of seeds. Just by observing, how could you tell which color bird feeder the birds
preferred? Look at the amount of birdseed left in the feeders.
12. A bottle rocket is an example of chemical potential energy.
13. A car sitting at the top of a hill is an example of gravitational potential energy.
When the car begins to move the car in now an example of kinetic energy. At
what position on the hill would the car have the greatest kinetic energy? Bottom
