the Employment, Self-employment and Work of
Aliens Act.
The first single permit, which needs to be obtained before entering the Republic of Slovenia,
is issued for the duration of the employment or
work contract, but not for longer than one year
and can be extended if the foreigner and their
employer apply for an extension of the single
permit in due time. The permit is extended under the same conditions that apply to its issuing.
A foreigner with a valid single permit may, during
its validity, change the position of employment
with the same employer, change the employer
or be employed with two or more employers
or enter into a new employment contract. The
above are subject to approval, which needs to
be requested at the administrative unit where a
foreigner resides. A change may be performed
when the foreigner receives written approval of
the administrative unit requested.
The single residence and work permit is issued in
residence permit card form, on which it is specifically noted that it is the single permit.

Republic of Slovenia abroad and an employer
may also lodge an application with the administrative unit where a foreigner will reside or with
the administrative unit of their registered office
or where business activity will take place. The
single permit application needs to be accompanied by supporting documents proving that
ing documents required for a particular type of
employment or work, e.g. employment contract,
certificate, etc.
the requirements for both residence and employment or work are met, i.e. a foreigner must
have a passport the validity of which exceeds
the intended residence in Slovenia by at least
three months, sufficient subsistence funds and
adequate health insurance as well as support-
In the procedure of issuing the single permit,
the administrative unit obtains (ex officio) data
on compulsory health insurance if a foreigner
has compulsory health insurance in Slovenia
and data from criminal and minor offences records kept in Slovenia. Employer-related data
is also obtained ex officio in accordance with
