The lives of these particular people are spent trying to balance the challenge of expressing their artistic selves while pursuing their profession as a public school educator. The STAR program is designed to honor and nourish the artist-educator by providing five public school educators from Florida with the opportunity to pursue their artistic work in the inspiring environment of the prestigious Hermitage Artist Retreat. Three-week residencies will be offered to two visual artists; two writers (fiction/non-fiction/poetry/playwriting); and one composer from July 11 – August 31, 2016. A Hermitage residency is a gift of time and space for artists to attend to their work. There is no requirement to produce. It is intensely personal time for concentration AND a gathering of a community of artists from different disciplines who share and learn. Traditionally, invited artists have seized the opportunity and found themselves more productive than at any other time in their creative lives. Interested educators may apply beginning January 18, 2016. Jeff Poulin Arts Education Coordinator Americans for the Arts February 2016 FAAE recently hosted three FREE Careers in the Arts workshops to inspire and guide middle and high school art students in the pursuit of traditional and non-traditional arts careers. We are extremely thankful to our partners at Full Sail University, Ringling College of Art + Design, and The Florida State University College of Music for their hospitality and contributions to this successful series. Nearly 200 students participated in the 2016 workshop series. Students heard inspiring messages from our keynote speakers: Wes Day and Kevin Connolly from Blue Man Group, Ringling President – Dr. Larry Thompson, and Disney Imagineer – MK Haley. Students engaged in handson activities in breakout sessions related to photography, animation, sound engineering, graphic design, stop motion animation, theatre arts, performance venue careers, journalism and arts critics, arts education, dance and choreography, video game design, music publishing, marketing, entertainment law, storytelling, Coding and Robotics, art history, music therapy, arts management, architecture and design, and more!
