WANTED
THE CHALLENGE
& OPPORTUNITY
Climate change threatens our planet’s physical environment,
as well as the social and economic structures we all depend on.
Climate innovation will need to become a foundation for the
future Australian economy. The scale of opportunity is vast.
New Climate Economy estimates that around US$90 trillion of
investment in global infrastructure is required to achieve a
broad-based, low-carbon economy by 2030.
Australian businesses that learn how to win and thrive in the
new, low-carbon economy will be positioned to succeed in a
world in transition.

This flagship program will explore the contribution of
regional tourism to mitigating greenhouse emissions while
adapting to the current and likely future unavoidable
impacts of climate change.
KEY ENABLERS
Climate KIC Australia
investigates cutting edge
approaches to financing,
decisions making and
policy approaches and
tests them on the ground.
POLICY AND REGULATION
Focus
Policy is crucial to setting the framework that will allow
the new economy to thrive and address the challenge of
adaptation and mitigation.

be an important enabler for the required systemic changes
Climate-KIC is setting out to achieve.
DECISION METRICS
Focus
The Climate-KIC will help establish a set of decision-support
tools that assist policy makers and businesses factor
climate change risk and opportunity into their strategic
decision-making.

GOVERNANCE
Climate-KIC Australia
will be a not-for-profit
company limited by
guarantee.
Advisory Council with
expertise across
Climate-KIC themes.
Board with core partners
with international links and
an independent chair.
National focus
with local and
regional activities.
Guided by best-practice
governance principles.
Balances flexibility
with accountability.
FUNDING
An estimated $2.7 million
is needed in the first
12 months.
Core partners will provide the initial investment in the establishment
phase, with an ongoing commitment to contribute to overarching KIC
management costs..
Post-establishment, Climate-KIC Australia will be designed to grow and
scale according to its success as it develops on initial portfolio activities.
Flagship programs, component projects, education and the acceleration
fund are intended to be self-funding, augmented by contributions (mainly
in-kind) from core and associate partners.
Climate-KIC Australia will ultimately be self-funding. We predict this
to take approximately 5 years, although growth may be more rapid.
CORE PARTNERS
$200,000
per year for three years
(min $100k in cash
matched by $100k
in-kind support)
CORE SME PARTNERS
$20,000
per year for three years
(min $10k in cash
matched by $10k
in-kind support)
ASSOCIATE PARTNERS
$10,000
per year for three years
(cash or in-kind support)
This is Australia’s
big chance to
come together and
innovate solutions
for the major
challenge facing
our country and
the world today.
