PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
AVRS, Petaluma CA
Sep 2012 - Present
Application Architect – Coordinated post-acquisition integration. April 2015 - Present
Key member of post-acquisition integration team. Integrated banking, ticketing, reporting,
source control, documentation and VM management. Introduced three new scrum teams to the
product and defined their goals. Achieved 114% of stated acquisition goal metrics.
● Led architecture review of core system components for multi-state readiness
● Transitioned printing solution from browser extension to Windows daemon
● Moved banking tasks from desktop applications to a server-managed system
● Implemented improved Agile Scrum planning and tracking methodologies
● Implemented server and customer session monitoring
● Integrated issue reporting and tracking solutions
Vice President of Engineering – Managing Complex Workflows to Simplicity. June 2013 - April 2015
Built and lead a team of four engineers in the development and maintenance of a B2B vehicle
processing solution. Using guidelines established by the California DMV, improved and maintained an
HTML interface to gather, verify and process information relating to vehicle transactions.
● Implemented a ticketing and code review system built on Phabricator.
● Implemented a build and deployment system built on Jenkins and RPM/yum.
● Introduced dependency management via PHP Composer.
● Converted source control from SVN to git.
● Migrated email services to Amazon cloud services.
● Implemented VM build management, built on Puppet.
● Implemented two-factor security for sensitive operations, built on TOTP.
● Migrated password reset procedures from call-based to email-based.
Senior Engineer – API Architecture and Implementation. September 2012 - June 2013
Using PHP and MySQL, organized and transferred data between clients and DMV systems with
a focus on accountability, reliability and speed. Architected, implemented and optimized an API to
allow for the replacement of a functionally-built website with an event-driven,
object-oriented-javascript powered HTML5 front-end.
● Built a Restful API from scratch.
● Built a single-page web application on top of backbone.js and jquery.
● Managed the collection and integration of beta-user feedback.
● Managed the planning, testing and roll-out of new product alongside legacy pages.
SocialCode, San Francisco CA
May 2012 - Sep 2012
Software Engineer – B2B Tools.
As the Front-End/UI Lead, architected and implemented a customer dashboard to quickly and
concisely present a summary of the advertising data for client campaigns. Working as a bridge
between account reps and big-data engineers, identified reporting gaps and planned API access so
that new graphs and reports could be deployed. (Note: SocialCode aqui-hired the Digg.com team.)
Digg.com, San Francisco, CA
Jul 2011 - May 2012
Software Engineer – Front-end implementation.
As a key member of the engineering team, responsible for designing and implementing the
user pathways through key features of the site. Tasks as diverse as user research and product
definition were routine as the users-to-engineer ratio was 2 million:1.
Using PHP, Smarty and a custom-built MVC, implemented new features such as the News Bar,
User Awards for Newsrooms and the Digg Social Reader. Because of the size of the audience (17
million monthly uniques), all product and design decisions had to be fully planned and tested both for
quality and system load.
Designed full-stack systems such as a modal-window class that worked as both an in-line html
element and as an AJAX-delivered event. Heavy use of HTML, JavaScript and CSS were routine in most
projects, but almost all processing was accomplished in PHP.
Lead a design review that resulted in a restructuring of the existing HTML and CSS code base
in order to implement a full-width experience, relying on HTML5 techniques and CSS media queries
(not fully implemented before Digg was sold to BetaWorks).
ATTIK, San Francisco, CA
Jul 2007 - Jul
2011
Software Architect – Full-spectrum design and implementation specialist for established design and
advertising firm.
Responsible for validating business requirements, developing technical requirements and
architecting the environment to meet those needs. Worked closely with account managers, producers
and client representatives to monitor and measure progress to continually validate solutions during
the software development life cycle.
Managed and mentored talented group of programmers as we relentlessly pursued the best
use of new technologies, culminating in being selected as an Amazon Web Services Certified Partner
in 2010.
Created several category-defining technology implementations that broke previous
conceptions of cost and timelines: a real-time PDF generator for Perkins+Will, streaming-video player
for Scion’s Reinvent the Wheels, iPad compatibility for Lexus’ Darker Side of Green.
Design Technologist – Infusing software expertise into a proven design process.
Lead programmer on high-profile projects that laid the foundation for the Interactive
Department. Significant influence during formulation of best practices and platform selection that
would guide strategy for the next 3 years.
Designed a publication layer that attaches to open-source content management systems,
allowing clients to significantly leverage CMS input patterns for enterprise websites.
Implemented abstract designs as concrete experiences for clients such as Taco Bell (Feed the
Beat), Scion (Pixel Reveal) and Icon Aircraft. Worked as part of a collaborative team process that
consistently delivered superb online campaigns under intense deadlines.
