Every number has an opposite.
Positive numbers have opposites that are
negative numbers.
Remember:
to add 6 and 6
subtract 6 from 6:
66=0
6 and 6 are
opposites.

Negative numbers have opposites that are positive numbers.

What is the opposite of 11?
3 is a positive number.
So, the opposite of 3 is a negative number.
