Fishing For Pumpkins
It‛s October, let‛s go fishing for pumpkins!
Kids prepare their pumpkins and fishing poles for all kinds of fishing fun and learning games (numbers, math, vocabulary and more).
PREPARE YOUR PUMPKIN FISH for Fun and Games
Step 1
Duplicate the pumpkin pattern on card stock.
Step 2
Kids (or you) can color and cut out the pumpkins
or duplicate on colored paper.
Step 3
Add numbers, symbols or words to
the pumpkins (one per pumpkin).
Step 4
Attach a paper clip to the top or side of each
pumpkin.
Step 5
Put the pumpkins in a large, clear plastic container.
PREPARE YOUR POLE
Step 1
Tie a piece of string to a branch or dowel.
Step 2
Tie or glue a magnet to the end of the string.

Here are a few games you can try out with your kiddos.

PUMPKIN (and fish) TRIVIA
.Pumpkins are a type of squash.
.Pumpkins grow in six continents
even Alaska.
.The largest pumpkin pie ever made was
over five feet in diameter and weighed
over 350 pounds.
.Colonists removed seeds and filled the
pumpkin insides with milk, spices and honey.
They baked the pumpkin in hot ashes.
.The largest pumpkin ever grown, as of
October 15,2013, weighed 2,032 pounds.
Who Caught the
BIGGEST PUMPKIN-FISH
Make the largest number possible by using
the numbers you ‘caught‛.
Materials:
Pumpkin-fish with numerals.
Fishing Pole
Play:
Go fish for two numerals
(or more depending on skill level).
Lay the numerals next to each other to
show the largest number you can.
There is no such thing as a Pumpkin-fish
PUMPKIN-FISH MATH
Fish for 2 numbers and a math symbol
(+, -, x, <, >) and solve the problem.
Materials:
Pole
Pumpkin-fish with numbers
Math Symbol Cards
(+, -, x, <, >)
Play:
Fish for 2 numbers
Select a symbol (+, -, x, <, >)
Lay the numbers and symbols
down and solve the problem.
How quickly did you solve the problem?
Suggestion: Kids can lay beans (counters)
on top of the numbers. They can use the
counters to solve (2 beans plus 5 beans or
3 groups of beans 2 times 3 X 2=6).
PUMPKIN-FISH MATCH
Match a numeral to the same number
of dots. (You don‛t need a fishing pole to
play this game.)
Materials:
2 sets of Pumpkin-fish
Marking pens
Preparation:
. Mark one set of fish with numerals
and the other with dots (or words).
Play:
Kids work in teams or alone to match the
numeral to the same number of dots.
Version 2: Match a numeral to the
number word it matches
