Pajka, M.D. Board Certified by American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Pajka is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus and served his residency at The Ohio State University Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Pajka is a pioneer in the field of eye surgery, bringing a number of “firsts” to the Western Ohio region such as corneal transplant, PRK, LASIK, Intrastromal Corneal Rings and No Needle-No Stitch Cataract Surgery. Dr. Pajka is the Medical Director of The Eye Surgery Center of Western Ohio. Dr. Pajka has performed eye surgery on many physicians and eye doctors alike. He was one of the first doctors in Ohio to perform LASIK surgery. In addition, Dr. Pajka has a special interest in helping restore sight in people in developing countries who are blind with cataracts. Once or twice a year, Dr. Pajka donates his time, surgical equipment and expertise to perform sight restoring cataract surgery to people in the developing world. He has led volunteer surgical eye missions to places including: Bolivia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, and Uzbekistan. He has helped with training of eye surgeons in these countries and he helped organize an exchange program which enabled Uzbek and Nicaraguan eye surgeons to come to the U.S., learning new surgical techniques. Dr. Pajka has received many awards and honors including the Lima Noon Sertoma Service to Mankind Award in 2008, Lima Allen County Chamber of Commerce Small Business Award in 2006, “The Best Doctors in America” award in 2005-06 and 2007-08, and Ujamma Award in 2009. Mary I. Shenouda, M.D. Dr. Mary I. Shenouda graduated Magna Cum Laude from Loyola University of Chicago, receiving a Loyola Presidential Scholarship. Upon her graduation, she was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She received her medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. She then completed her ophthalmology training at the University of Missouri and Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Dr. Shenouda is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Recently, she was honored as one of America’s top ophthalmologists after evaluation by the Consumer Research Council of America. She is also an active member of the Lions Club which is the world’s largest community service organization known for working to end preventable blindness. Areas of interest include laser surgery, eyelid surgery, as well as glaucoma and diabetic eye care. Kelly R. Everman, M.D. Dr. Kelly R. Everman specializes as an ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgeon. He is a native Ohioan and was raised in the Greater Cincinnati area. After completing his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Louisville, he pursued his formal ophthalmology training at Indiana University where he served as chief resident. He subsequently completed a two year ASOPRS fellowship in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Midwest Eye Institute/Interface Aesthetic Surgery Group in Indianapolis, IN. Dr. Everman enjoys the diversity of his chosen field with particular interest in eyelid and orbito-facial reconstruction as well as cosmetic facial surgery. His research interests have focused on orbital trauma and Graves/ Disease. Robert J. Derick, M.D. Dr. Robert J. Derick received his undergraduate degree at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana. He attended the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. Dr. Derick completed his ophthalmology residency at The Ohio State University Medical Center where he served as chief resident in 1989. He then completed a Glaucoma Fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University Wilmer Eye Institute in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Derick has served as an Associate Professor for The Ohio State Ophthalmology Department and has received many awards and honors including “The Best Doctors in America” award in 1998, 2004 and 2006. Dr. Derick specializes in glaucoma, cataract and general ophthalmology. Brian T. Gerlach, O.D. Dr. Brian T. Gerlach performed his undergraduate work at The Ohio State University where he majored in Pre-Optometry/Zoology. He was accepted early into The Ohio State University College of Optometry after only three years of undergraduate work. He received his doctorate of optometry in 1999. During his time at Ohio State, Dr. Gerlach received extensive ocular disease training at Dayton VAMC externship site. Dr. Gerlach is a member of the American Optometric Association and is a candidate for the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. Gerlach has accompanied Dr. Pajka on ocular medical mission trips to Nicaragua and Bolivia and hopes to participate in future trips. Robert D. Biggs, M.D. Dr. Robert D. Biggs is a graduate of University of Michigan Medical School. He completed his internship and residency training in ophthalmology at the University Hospital in Ann Arbor Michigan. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
