1. A myth is a traditional story whose author is unknown. It has its roots in the
primitive Folk-beliefs of cultures and uses the supernatural to interpret natural
events and to explain a culture’s view of the universe and the nature of humanity.
2. A myth is a story. Myths were told or written to answer some of the biggest
questions a person could ask- Who are we? Where did we come from? Why do
these things happen? A myth is often a story of gods and goddesses, heroes, great
deed, and supernatural powers.
3. Greek gods look and acted much like humans but they were powerful, beautiful
and far more gifted. The gods also had human feelings and emotion, like love,
anger, and jealousy. They acted like the Greek people they ruled.
4. Each god had a special area of influence, such as love, war, hunting, music, and
agriculture.
5. In the original sense, therefore a mythology is an attempt to bring sense to the
stylized narratives that the Greeks recited at festivals, whispered at shrines, and
bandied about at aristocratic banquets. Since few breeds of men are more prone to
squabbling than poets, priests, and aristocrats, contradictions in the material are
rife. Moreover, they are part of fun.
6. Greek mythology emphasized the weakness of humans in contrast to the great and
terrifying powers of nature. The Greeks believed that their gods, who were
immortal, controlled all aspects of nature. So the Greek acknowledged that their
lives were completely dependent on the good will of the gods. In general, the
relations between people and gods were considered friendly. But the gods
delivered severe punishment to mortals who showed unacceptable behavior, such
as indulgent pride, extreme ambition, or even excessive prosperity.
7. The mythology was interwoven with every aspect of Greek life. Each city devoted
itself to a particular god or group of gods, for whom the citizens often built
temples of worship.
8. Most gods have powers.
9. Stories were created because it was something to believe in.
1
10. Many of the men used to cheat on their wives and at times accepted incest.
11. Mortals would pray to certain gods depending on what they wanted.
12. Greek mythology compromises the collective narratives of Greek gods,
goddesses, heroes, and heroines. Originally created and spread within an oralpoetic tradition.
13. Heaven- Mt. Olympus. Hell- across the river of Styx.
14. Mortals often made contact with gods.
15. Stories explain why things happen.
16. The story must have a table of contents.
17. First page is the cover page with the publishing information. Second page is the
table of contents.
18. On the left side of the book is the illustration; on the right side is the story.
