C ELL U NIT P ROJECT S TUDENT NANE : _____________________________________ D UE D ATE : ___________ In this unit’s project, you will compare and contrast the structure of a typical plant cell with that of a typical animal cell. Project format- You will present the structural differences in a visual form. Your project must be submitted as a poster or model that includes illustrations of both cells. Required elements- Your project must contain the following elements for full credit: √ Poster must be submitted on poster paper (not 8 ½ x 11 printer paper) and models must be at least 6” in diameter (check with Ns. Treadway if you have any questions about size). √ Your name must be printed on the bottom right corner of your poster or model. √ Project must contain one diagram or model of a typical animal cell, and one diagram or model of a typical plant cell. It is suggested that shared structures/functions be labeled in between the two diagrams/models. √ Each organelle must be clearly shown in the diagram/model, labeled and include a brief description of its function. √ Project must be in color with clear labels. Labels should be in black ink, either typed or in sharpie/marker. Pencil and pen is not acceptable. √ Include the following cell structures o Cell wall o Cell membrane o Nucleus o Cytoplasm o Golgi Apparatus o Ribosomes o Endoplasmic Reticulum (rough and smooth) o Nitochondria o Vacuoles o Lysosomes o Chloroplasts Grading Criteria- Your project will be assessed using the provided rubric on the following criteria: √ Overall presentation √ Spelling, grammar and neatness √ Accuracy √ Creativity (have fun…glitter makes for good ribosomes!) √ Completion √ Punctuality Project Value- This project will go in the content (90%) portion of your grade for standard LS1 B/D: Cell parts – All cells contain organelles with specific functions. Labels were typed or clearly printed in sharpie/marker. No error in spelling or grammar, and information was written in student’s words. Project shows effort and creativity. Labels were handwritten in pen or pencil. Project lacks all effort, creativity and neatness. No color. 1-2 errors in spelling, with correct grammar. Information was written in student’s words. Project was submitted on or before assigned date. Project was submitted one day after assigned date. Project lacks effort and creativity, but was typed or neatly written in sharpie or marker. Pencil marks may be obvious. 3 or more spelling and grammatical errors made. Information was written in student’s own words. Project was submitted two days after assigned date. Student’s name was printed on lower right corner. Project was submitted on postersized paper or model is at least 6” in diameter. Diagrams are appropriately labeled “Plant Cell” and “Animal Cell”. P RESENT (1 PT ) PLANT ANINAL Student’s name was printed in another location. Only one of the two diagrams is appropriately labeled. L ABELED (1 PT ) PLANT ANINAL Nultiple spelling and grammatical errors made. Information was copied directly from research source. Project was submitted three or more days after assigned date. Student’s name was not printed on project at all. Project was submitted on 8 ½ x 11 paper or is under 6” in diameter. Neither of the two diagrams is appropriately labeled.
