In this unit’s project, you will compare and contrast the structure of a typical plant cell with
that of a typical animal cell.
Project format- You will present the structural differences in a visual form. Your project
must be submitted as a poster or model that includes illustrations of both cells.
Required elements- Your project must contain the following elements for full credit:
√ Poster must be submitted on poster paper (not 8 ½ x 11 printer paper) and models
must be at least 6” in diameter (check with Ns. Treadway if you have any questions
about size).
√ Your name must be printed on the bottom right corner of your poster or model.
√ Project must contain one diagram or model of a typical animal cell, and one diagram or
model of a typical plant cell. It is suggested that shared structures/functions be labeled
in between the two diagrams/models.
√ Each organelle must be clearly shown in the diagram/model, labeled and include a brief
description of its function.
√ Project must be in color with clear labels. Labels should be in black ink, either typed or
in sharpie/marker. Pencil and pen is not acceptable.
√ Include the following cell structures
o Cell wall
o Cell membrane
o Nucleus
o Cytoplasm
o Golgi Apparatus
o Ribosomes
o Endoplasmic Reticulum (rough and smooth)
o Nitochondria
o Vacuoles
o Lysosomes
o Chloroplasts
Grading Criteria- Your project will be assessed using the provided rubric on the following
criteria:
√ Overall presentation
√ Spelling, grammar and neatness
√ Accuracy
√ Creativity (have fun…glitter makes for good ribosomes!)
√ Completion
√ Punctuality
Project Value- This project will go in the content (90%) portion of your grade for standard LS1
B/D: Cell parts – All cells contain organelles with specific functions.
