All servers in the enclosure have their NICs connected to adjacent Virtual Connect modules. All uplinks are active to forward traffic for external communications. See the online help for details on adding an active/active network configuration and how to migrate from an active/standby to an active/active network configuration. • Server profiles support online dynamic changes Editing some server profile settings requires the server hardware to be powered off, while for others, the server hardware can remain powered on. You can edit the following settings with server hardware powered on: 4 ◦ Profile name ◦ Profile description ◦ Requested bandwidth of an existing connection ◦ Changes between a network and network set of an existing connection Release description and installation instructions NOTE: You cannot change an existing connection between Ethernet (network or network set) and Fibre Channel networks. A Fibre Channel network can be changed to another Fibre Channel network on the same interconnect. • Local RAID storage management Users with Server administrator privileges can manage the local storage configuration as part of the server profile. For HP ProLiant Gen8 and newer models. • Support for VMware vSphere version 5.5 was added. • HP OneView integration with VMware vCenter is available as part of HP Insight Control for VMware vCenter Server version 7.3. • REST API changes The following REST API resource models have changed in this release: ◦ ◦ server-profiles – ServerProfile changed to ServerProfileV2 – ServerProfileList changed to ServerProfileListV2 server-hardware-types – ServerHardwareType changed to ServerHardwareTypeV2 – ServerHardwareTypeList changed to ServerHardwareTypeListV2 HP OneView version 1.05 uses REST API version 4. 1.3 Documentation changes delivered in HP OneView version 1.05 • In the appliance user interface, the Help Sidebar was redesigned with separate links for appliance user interface help, REST API help, and first time setup help. • The following HP OneView documentation was updated for this release and is available at http://www.hp.com/go/oneview/docs. ◦ HP OneView Support Matrix ◦ HP OneView User Guide ◦ UI and REST API online help ◦ HP OneView REST API Reference 1.4 Resolved Issues 1.4.1 FlexNIC representations for full-height G7 servers HP OneView correctly configures the HP ProLiant BL620 G7 and HP ProLiant BL685c G7 LOMs as two independent adapters, each with two ports. 1.3 Documentation changes delivered in HP OneView version 1.05 5 1.4.2 Bandwidth setting enforcement supported on FlexNICs in HP ProLiant BL465c G7 and BL685c G7 servers The Optimized Bandwidth feature is correctly disabled on the following adapters: • HP NC551i Dual Port FlexFabric 10Gb Converged Network Adapter (HP ProLiant BL465c G7 and HP ProLiant BL685 G7 LOM) • HP NC551m Dual Port FlexFabric 10Gb Converged Network Adapter • HP NC550m 10Gb 2-port PCIe x8 Flex-10 Ethernet Adapter Connections on these adapters have equal Allocated and Maximum bandwidth settings, ensuring that the connections will receive their allocated share of the bandwidth. 1.5 New appliance installation instructions To install HP OneView version 1.05 on a new appliance, follow the instructions in the HP OneView 1.0 Installation Guide, which is available at the HP OneView Information Library (http:// www.hp.com/go/oneview/docs). 1.5.1 Validating the authenticity and integrity of the .ova download When you download the HP OneView appliance file from the HP Software Depot website at https://www.software.hp.com, you can trust that the virtual appliance image is from HP because the site is cryptographically secured by HP. If the person who is installing the virtual appliance is not the person who downloaded the virtual appliance (that is, a break has occurred in the chain of trust), the virtual appliance file has also been digitally signed. Use the freely available GPG tools to validate the authenticity and integrity of the file. For example: gpg --verify HP_OneView_1.05_Z7550-01284.ova.sig HP_OneView_1.05_Z7550-01283.ova NOTE: This digital signature verification step is not required for update installations. The update installation file (the *.bin file) is already digitally signed, and the update process automatically validates the digital signature. See the following web page for detailed verification instructions: http://www.hp.com/go/codeverify 1.6 Upgrade paths You can apply the HP OneView version 1.05 update to an HP OneView version 1.0 or 1.01 appliance. The update procedure requires a reboot of the appliance and the entire procedure, including the reboot, takes approximately 28 minutes. 1.7 Prerequisites for updating an HP OneView version 1.0 or 1.01 appliance These prerequisites apply when you update an HP OneView version 1.0 or 1.01 appliance to HP OneView version 1.05: 6 • You must be logged in to the appliance as a user with Infrastructure administrator privileges. • No other users are logged in to the appliance and no one logs in during the update. Release description and installation instructions • Before you begin the update process, use the appliance UI or REST APIs to back up the appliance: ◦ Appliance UI: Settings→Actions→Create backup and Settings→Actions →Download backup ◦ REST APIs: /rest/backups and /rest/backups/archive NOTE: • See the HP OneView online help topic “Back up an appliance” if you need assistance. Before you begin, create a VM snapshot of your appliance via the vSphere client. HP recommends you power off a VM before creating the VM snapshot. 1.8 Update installation instructions To update an HP OneView 1.0 or 1.01 appliance to HP OneView version 1.05: 1. Download the .bin image file from the HP Software Depot (https://www.software.hp.com) to your local computer. 2. Log in to your appliance and select Settings→Actions→Update appliance. 3. Move the .bin file to the appliance UI screen either by dragging and dropping or browsing to it. NOTE: 4. See the HP OneView online help topic “Update the appliance” if you need assistance Click Upload and Install to start the update process. 1.8.1 Back up the appliance after updating it After updating your appliance to HP OneView version 1.05, remember to create a new backup file. Backup images restore an appliance whose version exactly matches the backup file. You can use a version 1.05 backup file to restore an HP OneView 1.05 appliance, but you cannot use a version 1.0 or version 1.01 backup file to restore an HP OneView 1.05 appliance. 1.8 Update installation instructions 7 2 Best practices This section contains best practices for using HP OneView, intended for new customers. For additional best practices, see the HP OneView documentation, which is available at http:// www.hp.com/go/oneview/docs. 1. When updating HP OneView review all outstanding warnings and health status of systems under management. Pay special attention to firmware related warnings and health status. 2. Enclosures added to HP OneView cannot be part of an existing VC (HP Virtual Connect) domain. If an enclosure is managed by VC Manager, remove it from the VC domain before adding it to HP OneView. Transitioning an existing infrastructure currently being managed by VC Manager to being managed by HP OneView requires inventory and detailed evaluation of the current environment before you initiate the transition. 3. 4. 5. 6. External monitoring tools that require access to SNMP host-based agents should use a host-based NIC IP address. Do not manually disable Agentless Management mode on the server’s iLO, as this is a required feature. Before assigning server profiles to server blades in an enclosure, ensure that running tasks on the enclosures or server hardware, such as add, refresh, and firmware updates, have completed successfully. Place server profile PXE boot connections on FlexibleLOM 1-1:a (primary PXE boot connection) and FlexibleLOM 1-2:a (secondary PXE boot connection), which is the default performed by the auto option. When specifying boot from SAN boot configuration via a server profile, always specify: a. Primary boot SAN target on the adapter port that is connected to on the left-side FlexFabric interconnect module in the odd numbered IO Bay (for example, interconnect bay 1, 3, 5, or 7) b. Secondary boot SAN target on the adapter port that is connected to on the adjacent right-side FlexFabric interconnect module in the even numbered IO Bay (for example, interconnect bay 2, 4, 6 or 8) 7. Wait for POST (power on self-test) to complete before forcibly powering off a server using Press and hold. 8. If a local account user password is compromised, delete the user account and re-add the user with a new password. This ensures all associated user sessions are logged out and it does not require an appliance reboot. 9. Server profiles should specify a firmware baseline to ensure the minimum system ROM is present to ensure all available BIOS settings are supported. 10. For a server to communicate on the data center networks, you must configure uplink sets that include those networks in a logical interconnect group before server profiles associated with that enclosure group will be able to communicate over those networks. 11. If a previous management operation leaves an interconnect in the Maintenance state, use Reapply Configuration either on the Interconnects screen or the Logical Interconnects screen to return the interconnect to a Configured state. 8 Best practices 3 Troubleshooting Use the following information to troubleshoot issues you might experience when using HP OneView. Add the enclosure again. All server profiles within an enclosure show this error message after the enclosure was reset: The server hardware associated with this profile has been reinserted into the expected enclosure bay. The server profile needs to be reapplied to the server hardware. If you did not make any hardware changes to the servers in the enclosure, edit the affected server profiles and reapply them to the server blades in the enclosure (the server profiles that were originally applied are still assigned to the servers). Enclosure refresh operation encounters an error, such as Refresh the enclosure again. Unable to configure interconnect, since it is no longer managed by this appliance. When server blades are added or removed from an Refresh the enclosure. enclosure, the power utilization metrics displayed on the Enclosure screen do not reflect the change to the maximum power consumption for the enclosure. Server profile is in an error state that is not resolved by following provided resolutions in the HP OneView UI. Unassign the server profile, wait for the unassign operation to complete, then re-assign to server hardware. This preserves any virtual identifiers and ensures that the profile is completely re-applied to the target system. Server profile unable to apply one or more BIOS settings. If the specified BIOS settings are not supported by the server, reset the BIOS settings to the default value in the server profile and re-apply the profile. HP ProLiant G7 server blade has incorrect boot controller order if the profile is applied after resetting the BIOS to factory defaults via the RBSU (ROM Based Setup Utility – F9). 10 Troubleshooting Boot the server through POST (power on self-test), enter RBSU, exit RBSU, power off the server, and apply the profile again. 4 Known limitations The following are known limitations for using HP OneView. • After restoring an appliance that uses the external SCMB (State-Change Message Bus) or HP OneView integration with VMware vCenter features, if the restore operation is performed to a different appliance (with a matching IP address) you must reboot the appliance after it is restored. Performing the reboot ensures that the restored appliance is fully operational. You do not need to reboot the appliance if you are restoring to the same appliance or if you are not restoring an appliance that uses the external SCMB or HP OneView integration with VMware vCenter features. Performing the reboot after the restore operation increases the time to complete the restoration. IMPORTANT: If you are using a backup file created on another appliance to restore a new or replacement appliance, you must configure the new appliance with the same network settings as the appliance on which the backup file was created. For more information, see the HP OneView online help topic “Restore an appliance from a backup file”. • During first time setup, HP OneView occasionally displays the message “Appliance does not support the provided locale”. Refresh the browser window (for example, press F5 or Ctrl-R in most browsers) and click OK again. • REST API filter and query request attributes are experimental. The server profile REST API can be filtered by profile name. For best results, use the search index under index/resources to locate specific resources. • HP ProLiant BL465c G7 and BL685c G7 server blades with NC551i LOM, NC551m, or NC550m adapters do not support the requested bandwidth feature for server profile connections. Connections for these systems will rate-limit at the maximum bandwidth specified in the associated network or network set. • After a firmware update, the server ROM (BIOS) version for a server is not reported until the next time the server is powered on and allowed to complete POST (power on self-test). • A discrepancy can exist between what HP OneView displays as the Allocated Bandwidth on the server profile and the Bandwidth (min/max) values that are displayed on the Downlink Ports section of the Interconnects screen. The Bandwidth (min/max) values indicate the configured settings on the network or network set instead of reflecting the Allocated Bandwidth that was assigned in the server profile. • After multiple power cycles of an interconnect, the Uplink ports State on the Interconnects and Logical Interconnects screens can wrongly show linked even when the interconnect is powered off. This is an intermittent problem. • After removing and reinserting an interconnect in an enclosure, HP OneView can take up to five minutes to show the Interconnect power status as on. • When you add an uplink set for a logical interconnect group and specify no networks or uplink ports, HP OneView displays a warning. If you click Cancel in response to the warning, HP OneView still displays the warning in the notifications area and you can ignore it. • The HP OneView 1.05 REST API scripting help procedure “Create an automatically generated ID range for virtual MAC addresses, WWNs, or serial numbers” contains the following links to the HP OneView REST API Reference: GET /rest/id-pools/vmac/generate, GET /rest/id-pools/vwwn/generate, and GET /rest/id-pools/vsn/generate. These links should point to the generic API GET /rest/id-pools/{id}/generate in the HP OneView 1.05 REST API Reference (API Version 4). You can find this API in the id-pools resource under Servers 11 5 Support and other resources The following topics provide information about HP Support as well as the other resources and documentation that are available to assist you in the use of HP OneView. 5.1 Gather information before contacting an authorized support representative If you need to contact an authorized HP support representative, be sure to have the following information available: • Your Service Agreement Identifier (SAID) • Software product name — HP OneView • Hypervisor virtualization platform and version • Messages generated by the appliance • Other HP or third-party software in use 5.2 How to contact HP • See the Contact HP Worldwide website to obtain contact information for any country: http://www.hp.com/go/assistance • See the contact information provided on the HP Support Center website: http://www.hp.com/go/hpsc • In the United States, call +1 800 334 5144 to contact HP by telephone.
