Free pocket-sized Constitution booklets honor the signing anniversary
Athens Technical College is offering free pocket-sized U.S. Constitution booklets to students in honor of the document that established the
United States’ system of government and that outlined the freedoms Americans hold so dear. The compact versions of the Constitution are available
now and through the week of September 17 through the Financial Aid Office.
The Constitution of the United States of America was signed by the 55 delegates of the Constitutional Convention on September 17, 1787.
September 17 is now a national holiday known as Constitution Day, adopted to encourage increased education of the American people in citizenship,
civics, and the United States Constitution.
The result of a Senate Resolution introduced by Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia and enacted in 2004 as part of the Consolidated
Appropriations Act, Public Law 108-447, Constitution Day requires all educational institutions that receive federal funds to implement educational
programs relating to the United States Constitution on September 17 of each year in an attempt to increase students' knowledge and understanding of
the Constitution.
To help increase the knowledge and appreciation of the United States Constitution among American students, Athens Technical College is
joining colleges and universities around the nation in celebrating Constitution Day 2012.
The free pocket constitution booklets are currently available to all students in the Financial Aid Office in H-700 on the Athens Campus.
Students attending classes at the Elbert, Greene, and Walton campuses may obtain copies of the booklet by sending an email to
[email protected].
