Name:__________________________________ Due: October 28, 2013____________________ Texas Map Project Objective: You will become familiar with the terrain, landforms, bodies of water, climate, and natural resources in the state of Texas. Activity: You will create a map of Texas, using the supplied four puzzle pieces that will form the state when assembled. Each puzzle piece represents one of the four geographical regions of Texas; (1) Coastal Plains, (2) Central Plains, (3) Great Plains, (4) Mountains and Basins Region. After learning about each geographical region, you will choose materials of different textures, shapes, and colors, to symbolize the terrain, elevation, or climate of each area. For example, the background of the coastal plains could be made in soft green material to symbolize the plant growth that occurs because of the soil and the high level of precipitation. Instructions: 1. The map should be mounted on poster board or another substantial material so that it could be hung on the wall. 2. The map should have a title and a key. 3. Each geographical region should be labeled with its name. 4. Materials should be chosen to symbolize characteristics of the region. 5. The following bodies of water should be shown and labeled on the map: a. Gulf of Mexico b. Rio Grande c. Red River d. Trinity River e. Galveston Bay 6. The following land forms should be shown and labeled: a. Cap Rock Escarpment b. Davis Mountains c. Chisos Mountains d. Guadalupe Mountains 7. The following locations should be drawn and labeled: a. Austin b. Houston c. Dallas d. El Paso e. Denton f. Fort Worth g. San Antonio h. Padre Island i. Louisiana j. Oklahoma k. New Mexico l. Arkansas m. Mexico 8. Identify and label two products found in each geographical region. 9. Bonus/ EXPO: Create an additional product showing what you have learned about the four regions of Texas.
