National Curriculum
In Mathematics, we will be continuing to challenge ourselves on age-appropriate tables
and then using these, together with our knowledge of the number system, to problem
solve. Additionally, we will be looking at the key areas of place value and measurement.
LKS2 Topic: Ancient Egypt
In English, both year groups will be learning about mystery and suspense stories. In addition, both year groups will be experimenting with form and rhythm in poetry and writing
non-chronological reports based on the Egyptians.
Helping at home ideas:

English and Mathematics homework sent out on
FRIDAYS, to be handed in on WEDNESDAYS.
In Science, Year 3 will look at nutrition, the transportation of water and nutrients in the
body, as well as the muscle and skeleton system of humans and animals. Year 4 will be
learning about classification of plants and animals, in addition to the digestive system and
the role of teeth. Both year groups will be learning about the process of mummification
using tomatoes.
*There will be occasions when English homework will be replaced by
homework around the topic.


Each child should read for a minimum of 20mins
per day at home, reading records are to be
annotated in the Reading Record Book.
In RE, Year 3 will be studying what Christians believe God is like, how the Bible reveals
God’s plan, as well as what Jesus might think of Christmas. Year 4 will be studying the life
of Jesus and why Christians worship him, why Christians pray the Lord’s prayer, finishing
the term with how artists can help us understand Christmas.

As Historians, we will be exploring the history of Ancient Egypt, learning about the gods
and goddesses, the pharaohs, the process of mummification and how the pyramids were
built, among other things. There will also be a week in October dedicated to the study of
the Battle of Hastings to celebrate the 950th anniversary.

As Geographers, we will use maps and atlases to familiarise ourselves with our class countries and looking at the importance of the river Nile in Egypt.
In PSHCE, Year 3 will be looking at new beginnings, getting on and falling out, before finishing the term with the body. Year 4 will be starting with ‘Good to be Me’, followed by learning about legal drugs such as tobacco, alcohol and medicine.
As Design Technologists, we will be studying mechanisms used by the Egyptians to
transport water.
In Computing, year 3 will be studying how computers work, including algorithms and filing.
Year 4 will be using PowerPoint to create presentations.
As Artists, both year groups will be making canopic jars linked to their study of Ancient
Egypt. We will also be recreating a historical design—the Bayeux tapestry.
As Musicians, Year 3 will be learning ‘Let Your Spirit Fly’, an R&B song by Joanna Mangona.
Year 4 will be furthering their skill with the glockenspiel.
In PE, we will be playing invasion games, developing our throwing and catching skills playing handball and our hand eye coordination skills playing hockey.
In Modern Languages every pupil will continue to learn French.
