Threatened species projects (Stream two) Victorian Environmental Partnerships Program (VEPP) VEPP Stream two overview Stream two delivery and third parties Many of Victoria’s native plant and animal species are now considered threatened, vulnerable or moving towards extinction. DEPI Regional Services is leading the delivery of these 239 actions. They are working with a number of third party organisations to deliver projects in partnership with: The Victorian Government is investing in practical, local action to address these threats through the $15.48 million Victorian Environmental Partnerships Program (VEPP). Stream two has received $3.5 million which is directly funding 239 projects across Victoria to mitigate threats affecting important populations and habitats of threatened species groups. Parks Victoria; Zoos Victoria; Birdlife Australia; Greening Australia; Trust for Nature; Royal Botanic Gardens and other regional groups. Actions being delivered include: Removal of competitors including predator baiting; Breeding and release programs; Habitat protection; Fencing, weed control; and Ecological burning. Examples of regional projects funded Stream 2 involves government and key stakeholders working together to deliver actions that will reduce threats to important populations and habitats of threatened species. Specific examples include; Fox and wild dog baiting to protect Brush-tailed Rock Wallaby colonies in East Gippsland: Habitat restoration of the iconic Helmeted Honeyeater population through breeding, community monitoring, habitat protection, supplementary feeding and removal of competitors; Reducing predation of Broad-shelled Turtle nests by foxes in Barmah National Park through targeted and intense baiting focusing around wetland areas; Fencing, weed control, and the removal of competitors and ecological burning to protect a number of orchid species across the State including the Kilsyth South and Frankston spider orchids; Fox control to protect the only Victorian breeding site for the critically endangered Southern Bent-wing Bat; Erect/maintain signs to restrict or discourage access to breeding sites for the Hooded Plover; Habitat restoration for the Eltham Copper Butterfly through the removal of weeds and targeted supplementary planting.
