36 Standard Form of the Equation of a Line
Standard form of the equation of a line is where A and B are not both zero and A, B, and C are real numbers.
Standard form of a linear equation can be used to find the x and y
intercepts of a line. You can also solve for y to get it into slope
intercept form if you need the slope.
Graphing a standard form equation:
3x + 2y =12 1. Find the xintercept: put 0 in for y and find x
graph (x, 0)
2. Find the yintercept: put 0 in for x and find y
graph (0, y)
3. Connect the intercepts

Find the intercepts for each line and graph it.
2x 3y = 15
2x + 6y = 18
x + 4y = 8
5x y = 5
Standard form of the equation of a line can be solved for y to get the equation into slopeintercept form.
7x 2y = 12 Ax + By = C

You can solve an equation for y and simplify to find slope and y
intercept or you can use the shortcut:
slope: _______ yintercept: _______
