National Programme for Control of Blindness www.gujhealth.gov.in Health & Family Welfare Dept, Govt of Gujarat 1 NATIONAL PROGRAMME FOR CONTROL OF BLINDNESS India was the first country to launch a National Program for Control of Blindness in 1976. State Government of Gujarat started implementation of this programme in 1978. The common causes are refractive errors, Vita. A def., corneal opacity, cataract, Glaucoma etc. Govt. of Gujarat has launched and successfully doing well in School Health Programme since last 5 years. This programme is running with the co-ordination of primary education department. One teacher from each primary school preferably ladies teacher wearing the glass is trained for primary eye examination of the school children. In the year 2012 – 2013, 9455 teachers have been trained under NPCB programme. There are 36 registered Eye banks under Human Organ Transplantation Act in Gujarat.
