Geometry, Chapter 1: Basics of Geometry Learning Targets Standards: OACS‐ GSS Gr. 10 #2, 3 CCS‐ G.CO. 1, 12 Nouns: What will students need to know? Geometry, pattern, conjecture, inductive reasoning, counterexample, undefined term, point, line, plane, collinear, coplanar, line segment, endpoint, ray, initial point, opposite rays, intersect, intersection, postulates, axioms, coordinate, distance, length, between, distance formula, congruent segments, angle, side, vertex, congruent angles, measure, exterior, interior, acute, right, obtuse, straight, adjacent, midpoint, bisect, segment bisector, compass, straight edge, construct, construction, midpoint formula, angle bisector, vertical angles, linear pairs, complementary angles, supplementary angles Verbs: What will students be able to do? Describe, identify, label, locate, recognize, explain, distinguish, predict, compare, contrast, differentiate, solve, construct, state Teacher Knowledge: Any implied knowledge or words that need clarified for student success. Area, perimeter and circumference are terms that should have been studied before. Additionally, there are other terms from the “nouns” section that students should recognize. Learning Targets (KRSP): I can…… 1. Use inductive reasoning to formulate patterns; 2. Define basic geometry terms, including undefined terms; 3. Determine the distance between two points by using segment postulates or the distance formula; 4. Identify parts of an angle and various terms that relate to angles, such as acute, complementary, etc.; 5. Identify and sketch basic angle types; 6. Identify and label bisectors of segments and angles, and use the midpoint formula to find a midpoint on a graph; 7. Explain relationships between intersecting lines; 8. Solve problems with intersecting lines relationships; 9. Construct a segment bisector, midpoint and angle bisector.
