You Brief Description of Patient Population Patients with cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, and CT surgery. Cardiology medicine patients are also on this unit as well as medicine overflow and chest pain. Patient with cardiac surgery, ENT, urology, STEMIs and cardiac catheter labs. Acute care of the elderly (ACE), ETOH withdrawal, and all other family medicine patients. We provide a wide range of patient care experiences. This is a high acuity unit the provides care for patients leaving the ICU and those who are too sick to be on the medical surgery floor. Multiple patients have insulin, heparin, Cardizem and other IV drips. The Oncology services on this unit include: Hematology/Oncology, Surgical Services-- Gynecology, Otolaryngology, Surgical Oncology, and Urology. Patients are admitted for inpatient chemotherapy, myelosuppression, symptom management and post- operative surgical recovery. Patients on this unit have a variety of surgeries or procedures and need to stay for a few hours post surgery/procedure. Patients may have short stays for intravenous infusion of medications. Patients, both medical and surgical, may be admitted to overnight stays in observation status to evaluate for further treatment or need for inpatient admission. rom 7am-11am or 7pm-11pm any day of the week. Patients receiving care for neurological illnesses or who have had neurosurgical interventions; stroke, seizure monitoring. Internal medicine patients to include a wide variety of patients with many comorbidities. Many patients have the primary diagnosis of respiratory, endocrine, GI, and infections. Diagnosis, work up and treatment of medical diagnoses. Care of surgical, trauma, burn and wound patients. Care of pre and post operative general surgery, trauma and surgical specialty patients. MICU is designed to care for medicine patients that require extraordinary care, continuous hemodynamic monitoring, or access to sophisticated life support systems. In addition, the unit is designed for the care of chronic cardiac, renal or respiratory problem in acute exacerbation, GI bleeding, drug overdose, diabetic ketoacidosis, liver disease, and oncology. Patients admitted to MICU are transferred from this hospital's general medicine floors or clinics, the Emergency Room, Missouri Orthopedic Institute, Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital, or directly admitted from smaller community hospitals. Patients on this floor have had orthopedic surgeries related to trauma, or have had joint replacement surgery requiring inpatient stay due to comorbidities. Patients seeking medical or psychological emergent care. The population we serve is: We treat all major mental illnesses including depression, mania, schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders. We have a lot of patients with co-occurring substance abuse disorders as well as personality disorders. Our patients are managed by board certified neonatologists & NNPs and resident physicians from the Child Health and Medicine-Pediatric residencies. They are assisted by pediatric subspecialists in surgery (includes general, orthopedic, and neurosurgery), neurology, genetics, hematology/oncology, endocrinology, genetics, gastroenterology, urology, cardiology, otolaryngology, & ophthalmology. Available for one 4 hour Increment to start at 0700 or 1900. LDU: Labor and Delivery of babies through vaginal birth or Cesarean section. Postpartum: Care of the postpartum, antepartum patient.
