ANTIDEPRESSANTS:
Increase levels of serotonin in synapses. However, inhibit sexual response:
•SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor)
Stimulate Serotonin 2a receptors…..Inhibit sexual response
Fluoxetine (Prozac)
Paroxetine (Paxil)
Sertraline (Zoloft)
•SARI (Serotonin 2 Antagonist and Reuptake Inhibitor)
Block Serotonin 2 receptors…..Stimulate sexual response
Trazodone (Desyrel)
Nefazodone (Serzone)
•Agonist of Serotonin 1a receptor:
Buspirone (BuSpar) no sexual response interference
•Catecholaminergic:
Buproprion (Wellbutrin) Increases NE and DA; no Serotonin action..
Increases orgasm & ejac
Reboxetine (Edronax) Increases NE; no Serotonin action
•Herbal:
St. Johns Wort Mechanism unknown; no sexual side effects
