Cloud 9 Theatricals, in association with
Lang Entertainment Group and Ray of Light Theatre present
the San Francisco premiere of
SILENCE! The Musical
The “subversively funny and deliciously tasty”
award-winning musical parody begins Thursday, January 26
at San Francisco’s historic Victoria Theatre
SAN FRANCISCO (September 13, 2016) — Cloud 9 Theatricals, in association with Lang Entertainment
Group and Ray of Light Theatre are proud to present the San Francisco premiere of SILENCE! The
Musical, the unauthorized parody of “The Silence of the Lambs,” playing a limited engagement at San
Francisco’s Victoria Theatre (2961 16th Street, San Francisco), Thursday, January 26 through Saturday,
February 25, 2017. SILENCE! The Musical tells the story of rookie FBI agent Clarice Starling as she
matches wits with the brilliant but insane cannibal, Dr. Hannibal Lecter in order to catch the serial killer
known as Buffalo Bill. Clarice faces her own demons—and a troupe of singing and dancing lambs—while
racing against the clock to unlock Lecter’s clues before another innocent girl is killed and skinned by
Buffalo Bill.
Reduced-priced previews begin January 26, with opening/press night on Friday, February 3, 2017. The
performance schedule is Thursdays and Fridays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 and 10 p.m. Tickets range in
price from $35 - $55 and are available online at www.silencethemusicalsf.com and at the theater box
office, one-hour prior to performance time. Chianti will be on tap at the theater, but at this time, no
fava-beans will be made available for public consumption. Ticket prices are subject to change without
notice.
Featuring a book by Tony Award nominee Hunter Bell ([title of show] on Broadway) and music and lyrics
by Jon and Al Kaplan, SILENCE! The Musical stars Anne Norland as Clarice and Scott Hayes as Dr.
Hannibal Lecter. SILENCE! combines whip-smart dialogue and shocking songs to make a musical parody
that’s sure to be popular with well-seasoned fans of the movie, foodies, and FBI novices alike. Narrated
by a singing chorus of floppy eared lambs, audiences will succumb to the toe-tapping tune from Buffalo
Bill as he gleefully dances a hoedown while kidnapping hapless Catherine Martin, drool with delight as
Dr. Lecter sings about the life he’d like to lead outside the prison walls, and care for fledgling agent
Starling as she navigates her West Virginia accent, her good bag, and her cheap shoes, as she tries to
climb the FBI ladder.
Fueled by a rabid cult following since the songs debuted online in 2002 by comedy writers Jon and Al
Kaplan, SILENCE! expanded into a live stage show and shattered every box-office record at the 2005
New York International Fringe Festival, winning the Best Musical Award. The 2011 off-Broadway staging
was listed by TIME magazine as one of the “Top 10 Plays and Musicals of 2011” and was awarded Best
Musical by the Off-Broadway Alliance. The New York Times raved that SILENCE! is “Hilarious!
Subversively funny, deliriously tasty… it makes those naughty ditties in The Book of Mormon seem like
trunk songs dropped from The Sound of Music.” SILENCE! has gone on to play sold-out engagements in
Los Angeles – where it slayed audiences and garnered 11 nominations: five from the Drama Critics Circle
Awards and six from LA Weekly Theater Awards–and London.
Says co-producer Victoria Lang, who produced the original off-Broadway hit, “Ever since we hatched the
idea of producing SILENCE! as a musical, I’ve been excited to introduce the show to the delicious San
Francisco Bay Area audiences. I just know they’re going to eat it up.”
Adds Bell, “I'm thrilled Bay Area audiences will get to see Dr. Lecter, Clarice, and the singin', dancin', and
screamin' lambs. New San Francisco checklist: Seals, Giants, Folsom Street Fair, Slim's, Urban Putt,
Alcatraz (Hannibal would want that), and SILENCE! The Musical.”
Directed by Jason Hoover, SILENCE! The Musical stars Anne Norland as Clarice Starling, Scott Hayes as
Dr. Hannibal Lecter, Brian Watson as Buffalo Bill, Brendon North, Matt Hammons, Ryan Vasquez, Eliza
Leoni, Audrey Baker and Hayley Lovgren.
The creative team for SILENCE! includes choreographer Alex Rodriguez, music director Ben Prince,
scenic designer Angrette McCloskey, lighting designer Michael Ramsaur, sound designer Anton
Hedman, costume designer Connie Strayer, stage manager Lori Fowler and technical director and
production manager Daniel Cadigan.
Bay Area audiences will get their first taste of SILENCE! at San Francisco’s legendary Folsom Street Fair
on Sunday, September 25. At the SILENCE! booth, fans will be able to take selfies with Hannibal Lecter
and Clarice Starling, and, in a nod to the iconic quote from the Academy Award-winning film, can try to
win tickets by throwing bottles of limited edition SILENCE! lotion into the f*#%cking basket.
