Geologic time scale
The geologic time scale is considered the calendar of earth history. On the geologic
time scale, the oldest events are found at the bottom and the youngest events are
found at the top. Can you figure out why geologists follow this convention? It
follows the Law of Superposition! (In an undisturbed sequence of strata the oldest
rocks are at the base and the youngest rocks are at the top)
Study the geologic time scale below; Try to identify the different Eons, Eras,
Periods and Epochs. Compare the different life forms during each period as well as
the evolution of life until the present day.
