Beaucoup de jeunes Canadiens admirent Terry Fox. Il avait
dix-huit ans quand il est tombé malade. Cependant, Terry

• Look at the photo.
• Make any notes you wish to on paper.
• Your teacher will then ask you questions about the
photo and about topics related to me, my family
and friends.
Look at the role play card and prepare what you are going to say.
What might the
unexpected question
be? When you have
prepared your other
answers, try to predict
different possibilities,
and think how you
would answer them.
Situation: Arranging an outing to a concert with your French friend.
Your teacher will play the part of your friend and will speak first.
You should address your friend as tu.
When you see this – ! – you will have to respond to something
you have not prepared.
When you see this – ? – you will have to ask a question.
• ? Concert de Stromae demain.
• !
Make sure that you
give both of the
required details – a
place and a time.
What tense do you
need to use here?
Be sure to give two
details!
First of all, identify
the question you need
to ask. Then work out
how to ask it. You could
start with Tu veux...?
There might be some unfamiliar words on the task card. Don’t panic:
try to work out what you think they might mean.

Compare your answers with a partner and practise what you are
going to say. Pay attention to your pronunciation and intonation.
Listen carefully to the unexpected question (!).
You have thought about what the examiner might ask.
But be sure to answer the question he/she actually asks.
1 In what order does Sarah mention the following? a what they look like b who is in the picture
c her opinions about them d where they are
3 What two expressions does she use to say what they seem to be like?
Use rising intonation for questions, and falling
intonation for statements.
