Solve the systems of equations by
using the substitution method.
x = -4y + 6
2x - 4y = 24
7.3 Solving Systems with Elimination
Objectives:
TSW: 1. Solve systems of equations by using the elimination method.
(10, -1)

Elimination Steps
1.
1. Make sure variables line up
vertically.
2. Check for opposites. If no
opposites, use multiplication
to make opposites.
3. Add equations straight down and
solve.
4. Plug in solution to either equation.
5. Write as an ordered pair (x,y)

Dominic bought hamburgers and hot dogs for
his soccer team. Hot dogs are $2.25 per
package and hamburgers are $6.00 per
package. He bought 11 packages and spent
$51.00. How many of each did he buy?
3x + 4y = 1
5x + 2y = -3
