A small group yoga retreat with Linda Douglas in Mysore, and a Tamil Nadu
journey.
In July 2016 we will be running a very special small group yoga retreat in the beautiful city of
Mysore. The retreat will be led by Linda Douglas, a qualified yoga teacher, having trained with Sri K
Pattabhi Jois, from 2003.
This trip is for both absolute beginners and advanced yoga practitioners as Linda will offer a range of
yoga classes to suit your level. Linda has also trained in tai chi and is currently learning botanical
illustration. In Mysore there will be an opportunity to practice tai chi and art in the
gardens of the Green Hotel (the flora in India is vibrant and majestic). Linda is also a lecturer in social
work and has an interest in humanitarian work and would be happy to facilitate contact with
charities if this is within her remit.
Mysore (or Mysuru), in India's Karnataka state, was the capital of the Kingdom of Mysore from 13991947. In its centre is the UNESCO World Heritage Site Mysore Palace, former seat of the ruling
Wodeyar dynasty. The palace blends Hindu, Islamic, Gothic and Rajput architectural styles, and is
dramatically lit at night. Mysore is also home to the centuries-old Devaraja Market, filled with spices,
premium silk and sandalwood.
The dates for the retreat are 3rd – 11th July. The group size is minimum 10 and maximum 16. This will
be followed by an optional extension tour of Tamil Nadu, the State at the southern tip of India. The
dates for the Tamil Nadu journey are 11th – 18th July. The group size is minimum 4 and maximum 16.

Following the yoga retreat we are pleased to offer a short extension journey through Tamil Nadu,
the state at the southern tip of India is known for its Hindu temples, Dravidian architecture, music
and dance. The food is fantastic too. This 7 night extension tour, accompanied by Linda Douglas, will
allow you to taste its delights.

returning from Chennai. Included are visits to the famous Meenakshi Temple in Madurai, the largest
Hindu temple in S. India and a guided tours of Pondicherry with its French colonial architecture and
Mahabalipuram the UNESCO World Heritage Site on the Coramandel Coast.

UK and EC citizens require a visa to visit India. You are responsible for obtaining these yourselves
but we will of course provide any guidance or assistance you may require
The Tamil Nadu climate is tropical and the weather is generally hot except in the monsoon seasons
of June/July and October/December when average daytime temperatures can be expected in the
region of 27-30c. Tamil Nadu gets most of its rains from the north-east monsoons between October
and December while the state remains largely dry during the June/July monsoon season.
