Bacteria
and
Protists
Bacteria
Cartoon
Bacteria:
• Kingdom Moneran
• They are ALL
single-celled
• Do NOT have a nucleus
Bacteria are classified by
shape:
•Coccus (round)
•Bacillus (rod)
•Spiral (corkscrew)
Protists
(Protozoa)
Cartoon
Protists:
• Kingdom Protista
• Wide variety
• Most are single-celled
• They DO have a nucleus
• Live in wet
environments (lakes,
ponds…)
Protists are classified by
how they move and
gather food.
They use:
• Cilia
• Pseudopods
• Flagella
A Paramecium uses Cilia
Paramecium
•Moves through the water by
waving tiny hairs called cilia.
•The cilia also help to
capture food
An Amoeba uses Pseudopods
Amoeba
•Has pseudopods (false feet)
•Moves by pulling itself with
its pseudopods.
•The pseudopods
are also used to
trap food.
Pseudopods
A Euglena uses Flagella
Euglena
•Move using whip-like tails
called flagella.
•Has traits of both plants and
animals;
it can make its
own food and
can also eat.
