By collecting performance metrics from Symmetrix
Series and CLARiiON storage systems and correlating
this data with additional information collected by
VERITAS Indepth™ for Oracle, DB2 UDB or SQL
Server, VERITAS Storage Extension for EMC provides
an unprecedented view of your application
performance infrastructure. This holistic, ‘user-tospindle’ view provides the ability to quickly and
proactively detect performance bottlenecks, improve
application performance, leverage infrastructure
investment, and make the best use of scarce
personnel resources.
VERITAS Storage Extension for EMC is linked to EMC
Storage systems via EMC’s API Runtime Kit and
provides a breakdown of I/O operations per unit and
displays statistics on all I/O levels for each Unit,
Device, Hyper, and Director. Storage Extension for
EMC correlates logical files and activities in the
database to the physical locations on the EMC disks
where the objects reside. In addition, Storage
Extension for EMC is correlating this information back
to operating system, database, and application metrics
so that when a device is busy, you also know what
impact, if any the busy device is having on the user’s
application.
In addition, Storage Extension for EMC provides
information on the Host Channel Interface, Channel
Director, Cache, and Disk Director.
VERITAS Storage Extension for EMC houses all the
information it collects in a rich data store, the
Performance Warehouse, which virtually eliminates
the need to “recreate” problems. The VERITAS
Storage Extension for EMC solution uses lowoverhead technology to capture performance
information 24 X 7, so you can quickly delve into a
performance bottleneck. Over time, the Performance
Warehouse provides the historical perspective
necessary to facilitate long-term trending, analysis,
and reporting.
