Characteristics of Cells
• How many cells can an organism have?
• Be able to explain why cells are so small * Short Answer
• What are the three components of the Cell Theory?
• What are the differences between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells? Which are
humans?
Chemistry of Life
• Be able to name and describe one of the 4 main types of molecules in the body
and describe 3 points of it (lipids, proteins, carbohydrates, nucleic acid)
• Why is water important for cells?
• What is the cell membrane made of? Be able to draw it.
• What causes water to move into or out of a cell?
• Describe osmosis
Cell Structure and Function
• Be able to label the organelles in a plant and animal cell
• Know the main function of each organelle in the cells
Homeostasis and Cell Processes
• Be able to identify examples of endocytosis and exocytosis and know the main
difference between them
• Be able to describe how active transport and passive transport work and how
they are different from each other * Short Answer
• What is homeostasis (how does it work) and why is it important?
• What are the two ways that cells get energy? What are their differences?
• What are the two reasons why cells divide?
Cellular Organization and Systems
• What (in order!) are the levels of cellular organization?
• What makes up each level?
• Know what the major body systems are, the main function of each, and their
major organs
• Know the bones and muscles of the body
