HOLDEN R-III SCHOOL DISTRICT STANDARDS AND ESSENTIAL LEARNING OUTCOMES
WORLD HISTORY
‣ Students will assess the impact of the Columbian Exchange and the resulting transformations Analyze the
Renaissance and Reformation’s impact on the future of education and religion
‣ Explain the consequences of the major revolutions of the 18th and 19th Centuries, such as American,
French and Industrial.
‣ Distinguish between fact and opinion and analyze (primary and secondary) sources to recognize bias and
points of view
‣ Students will be able to explain how enlightenment philosophers/writers influenced the constitutional
principles of the U.S. and the rest of the world.
‣ The student will identify the 3 major revolutions of the 18th-19th Centuries (French, American, Industrial),
including one cause and consequence
‣ The student will create maps, charts, diagrams, timelines, political cartoons and graphs to assist in
analyzing & visualizing concepts in the United States
‣ The student will analyze all major wars of the 20th Century – including causes, comparisons, consequences
and peace efforts.
‣ Students will be able to evaluate whether the positive effects outweigh the negative effects of imperialism
on a society
‣ Students will analyze the rise and fall of the USSR and communism
‣ Students will be able to identify three major events of the Cold War and explain how the end came about
