ANNEX D: SAMPLE DEVELOPMENT METRICS FOR COUNTRY CLASSIFICATION For reference purposes, UNICEF is providing to Proposers the below nonexhaustive list of metrics/indices, which individually or in combination may provide assessments of health need and overall country development level: • Aggregate Gross Domestic Product (GDP) / Gross national product (GNP) • Gross National Income (GNI) • Gross Domestic Product / Gross National Income by Purchasing Power Parity (GDP / GNI PPP) • Human Development Index (HDI) – combined GNI per capita PPP, life expectancy, adult literacy, and average number of years of schooling • Human Poverty Index (HPI) - derived separately for developing countries (HPI-1) and a group of select high-income OECD countries (HPI-2) Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) - shows the number of people who are multidimensionally poor and the number of deprivations with which poor households typically contend • • Gini coefficient • Demographic statistics - e.g. infant mortality, life expectancy, fertility • Epidemiology/burden of disease - e.g. mortality and morbidity rates for disease, incidence, case fatality • Development Diamond - life expectancy at birth, gross primary (or secondary) enrolment, access to safe water, and GNI per capita RFP-DAN-2012-501580 (ANNEX D) page 1 of 1
