Islam
• Religion that
reaches into all
aspects of life.
Origins
Birth of Islam- 622 A.D.
Arabia/ city of Mecca
Started by Muhammad the prophet
Conflicts Due to Religious Perspectives
Islam forbids the
creation of
denominations in the
religion.
People have done this
anyway and created
conflict between Muslims.
It is considered a bad thing
to call a Muslim a Bid' Atee,
Mushrik, or Kafir (nonMuslim).
Conflicts Due to Religious Perspectives:
The Shia-Sunni Split
The Shia and Sunni
disagreed on who was
going to succeed
Muhammad.
Shia thought
family member
should succeed
Muhammad.
The Sunnis
prevailed.
Sunnis wanted
to
choose leader
to the Muslim
community.
But the groups are still separated today.
Islamic Places of
Worship
Mosques
The Mother Mosque of America
The city of Mecca
The Grand Mosque
Attitudes about Wealth
How is wealth earned?
* Money is earned by one's own hard work or
inheritance.
* Not by gambling, the lottery, fraud, and burglary.
Attitudes about Wealth
How is wealth spent?
*Wealth can be shared by
their family, relatives, and
poor people.
The main reason for giving to
Zakaah is that it bridges the
gap between the rich and the
poor.
Attitudes about Wealth
Another reason for
sharing the money is that
it will help a person
accept their wealth.
By developing their
character in order to
remove selfishness and
helps them feel good
about their wealth.
Attitudes About Social
Responsibility
• The Islamic State or commonwealth
developed slowly.
• Muhammad led his people to
a better and healthier life.
• Instead of being a peninsula of
mutually raiding tribes.
• Today our New World is helping to lift
the dead hand.
Attitudes About Social
Responsibility.
• Islam had become commonwealth.
• Islam also has raised new standards.
Separation of Church and State

Citizenship rather than religion should be the
basis to a state
