PROPOSAL

UNIVERSITY OF SUMATERA UTARA
A. Background
Contained in the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 12 of 2012 on
Higher Education with God’s mercy President of the Republic of Indonesia, that to
increase the national competitiveness in the face of globalization in all sectors, higher
education is needed to develop science and technology and produce intellectuals,
scientist and/or professionals who are cultured and creative, tolerant, democratic of
strong character, and brave to defend the truth in the interest of the nation. This is
where the importance of the intellectual and the attitude that must be owned by our
generations, medical students, who have the opportunity to face the globalization
through the establishment of a student excels in both the intellectual and behavior so
that they can be the agents of change which are useful to themselves, their families, and
as well as for the country.
Indonesian Medical Students Executive Board’s Association (ISMKI) as the
only medical student executive board’s organization has organized a variety of student
activities in the field of education, research, and community service. For this reason,
ISMKI with 72 institutions in Indonesia strive to accommodate our next generation
potential, annually held competition in the form of the only one Indonesia Medical
Olympiad (IMO) and in 2015 changed the name into Indonesian International
Medical Olympiad (IMO).
This competition will examine the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of the
medical students from all faculties of medicine in Indonesia and abroad. Just like an
Olympiad, IMO 2017 has six branches of science that will be competed which is
Cardiorespiration, Uroreproduction, Musculoskeletal, Digestive, Neuropsychiatry, and
Infectious Disease. In addition, IMO 2017 will hold a variety of supporting events to
gain insight and knowledge and as well to establish the intimacy of the participants of
this event. The event is none other than to prepare the future doctors to become the
leading resource to promote Indonesia and other countries.
We hope with this event, medical students are able to optimize their potential.
And with the various series of other events, medical students are expected to be
